Has anyone played the game? Looks like Amazon will have my copy delivered to me tomorrow. I'm looking forward to playing it.

Sticker Star looks a bit mediocre to me honestly. Let me just say that I LOVE TTYD, and I enjoyed PM64 a great deal, but this game just doesn't look that good.

It's almost like they sucked out everything that made the first two games good and replaced it with some other trivial stuff. No partners, no leveling, no badges, completely taking out any story elements, which is what made the PM games so charming. Instead they put in some broken up world map and simplified the combat to the point where it really doesn't even seem worth it to fight battles.

I dunno, I just wish Nintendo would make another proper Mario RPG.

I don't mind it when Nintendo changes things up, but I mean damn, it's not like the series had gotten stale or anything, there didn't really seem to be any reason to change the game style in SPM or SS. The transition from PM64 to TTYD shows that you could still have the same core mechanics while changing/improving upon them a great deal.

How far into the game did you get? My copies came into my office today (yesterday was a federal holiday for USPS) so I'll try it out tonight.

I plan to play this with an open mind

A poster over at neogaf wrote this:
Neogaf poster wrote: I remember when the first Paper Mario came out, the initial reaction was,

"How come when you level up your stats don't increase? I want a Super Mario RPG 2 with regular damage, not 1s and 2s, and stats, and a big party. And Bowser not being the main bad guy again."

But now Paper Mario is the standard.
Not saying Sticker Star will become standard or anything like that, I'm just remembering attitudes about games when they were released vs. now. (Like Majora's Mask)
The general reaction in this thread is overwhelmingly positive about this game. Intelligent Systems generally make good games so I have a good level of confidence in them.

I've been playing it for a few days. Still wandering around, talking to people, and trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do next. Doesn't help that I've only been able to play the game in 30min chunks.

The game seems to be a lot like Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door with different twist on the battle mechanics in that you use stickers instead of items. You still have the timing mechanism of hitting the button at the right time to make the attack more powerful or to block. So far, I'm enjoying it.

Someone posted a neat GIF showing Miyamoto shaking his head or something like that. Before the gif, it shows New Super Mario Bros 1 & 2 with the caption, why does Nintendo rehash the same game. The next GIF shows TTYD & Sticker Star, with the caption, why can't Nintendo make more of the same game (or something like that).

It's true, Nintendo can't win sometimes. I do appreciate Nintendo trying to do things differently.

EDIT: Found it!
