Re: Journey
just watched my wife play through the entire game, and it was just as beautiful as an onlooker.

Re: Journey
Just finished the game, too. Brilliant in every way. Didn't read anything about it prior to playing, so don't blame me for thinking my companion was an AI, lol. Finding out it was a real player afterwards just made my experience with Journey that much more wonderful. Really, there were moments where we moved in unison and gave me the impression my companion was "Tails". Love this game - can't stop thinking of it; beautiful in its simplicity.
Re: Journey
I just watched my 7 year old neice play through it. I hadn't even tried it yet since I mostly got it for her - she really enjoyed their previous game, Flower. I can't say enough about how well they designed this game. She lost her friend partway through and got really sad (whoever it was quit or skipped ahead because she was falling behind) very soon the server gave her a new one and he/she guided my niece through to the end very patiently.
Their main goal - to make a connection to someone else playing it - was completely succesfull as far as I could tell. She got emotionally attached to whoever played through the game with her, and strongly wants to do it again with her new friend despite never communicating aside from the beacon call button. I've had trouble convincing her to play through even the first level of many games, even simple multiplayer co-op ones, yet the levels in this game can be quite challenging and she only wants to keep playing it. I'm still not entirely sure how they ride the kites, but they do.
If it can keep me engaged, and have enough challenges (There's tons of secrets and hidden stuff from what I saw), but still make it able to be completed by an elementary school kid with a short attention span it's got a lot going for it.
Awesome game design! 10/10 FTW!

Re: Journey
So after journey was released I played the hell out of it for a couple weeks got every trophy and loved every second of it. Every time I met another player I instantly felt a connection with them and wanted to help them and make sure they were safe at all times. I know I had felt like this in a game before and wanted to figure out where it had been.
Well I figured it out, dark/demon souls are where I first had the feeling. Everytime you join another persons game as a phantom you are there trying to keep them safe from invaders and the environment as well. It was a weird knowing I had that feeling before but not being able to place it at all.
Now I'm not saying the games are similar at all just that the feeling of attachment to another player that I can't really communicate with gave me the same feelings of attachment. I'd also have to recommend the souls games to people for the same reason.

Re: Journey
Can you buy this game without being on the PS3? I mean, xbox allows you to buy games for your 360 by going to xbox.live.com on your PC and buying them that way. I don't think the PS3 has this capability, does it?

I've actually had a similar experience playing CS back in the 1.3 days. Voice chat wasn't built in to the game yet, so playing with random people meant that you had to rely on a lot of non-verbal communication (because typing was a good way to get yourself shot). I think restricting the ability to speak with other players really seems to improve the experience across people.flex wood wrote:Well I figured it out, dark/demon souls are where I first had the feeling. JT, I wonder if this is something that would be interesting to research academically.

Re: Journey
Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the capability. MediaGo seems to be a platform to get media for your portables (psp, tablets, phones, etc).noiseredux wrote: I think you can if you use MediaGo ...maybe?

Re: Journey
yeah, I wasn't 100%. I know you can access the store on MediaGo. And I'm mostly sure you can buy/download PSP (PSOne, Minis, etc) stuff on MediaGo to your PC (and then move them to PSP) but wasn't sure about PS3 stuff.
