Hey, Kimari gets customization from the get go.... well, not really, he just gets the shaft.

I loved this game. Loved the story, characters, mini games, combat system, ridiculously hard post-end-game bosses, all that jazz.

It and IX are easily the best 3D Final Fantasy games. Sure, the voice is cheesy at times, but this game came out in 2001 iirc, and at that time I could care less.

Then again, I like mindfuck stories, and characters that are meant to piss you off... and just weird shit in general, so most people might not agree with my taste.

I say play it for yourself and see. I thought Tidus was perfect as the main role, since the story throws you around so much that you don't really know whats going on, and neither does he. Plus, If your main character AND Auron were super cool, the game would have felt forced and lame imo.

You post about shmups and final fantasy. i like you

Ahh crap. FF X. I'm going to give the game another fair shot before I hate on it. As with any game there were things I liked and things I didn't like.

One thing I will say, and I firmly believe this (no doubt in my mind!), FF X has some of the most ridiculous character designs in the entire series (from what I've played. I haven't played every single title). Some of the characters were just flat-out strange looking.

Definitely give the game a chance. It's not terribly expensive or anything so give it a go. I could barely stand most of the characters and thought the story was generally pretty dull, but I loved the battles. The fast pace and being able to swap characters in and out of battle on the fly really made the game fun to play.

I'll say the same thing about FFX that I say every time... I just can't get into it because of the constant cut scenes. I got it when it first came out, and I gave it a real good shot. I played several hours of it (I don't recall exactly how far I got). But I got so sick of it that I stopped playing. I turned it on maybe two years ago to see if maybe I could get into it, but I could not. It just feels like you're watching it more than you're playing it, and that's my biggest problem with the game. Watch a 5 minute scene, take a few steps, watch another 5 minute scene, repeat.

That's why I can't replay FFX, even though I really enjoyed the battles. The cutscenes can't be skipped and I tolerated them the first time through for the sake of the gameplay, but really found them irksome.

Ha ha, this one is hard to disagree with. Quina from IX was pretty damn strange, and Eiko just disturbed the crap out of me with that crotch-moogle. Still probably my favorite in the series though... and Amarant. IX and X both had some weird ass character designs.

But yeah, they were definitely going for different... in japan. I still thought Auron was so cool as a youngin though.

@Ziggy587: I can see what you mean, the beginning of the game is just jam-packed with cut-scenes. It does reach a point where you have tons of freedom, but it takes a bit to get there. I think their flaw was that they were 100% counting on the player to be absorbed into their story.

It seemed a common trait amongst early ps2 rpgs. Star Ocean and Xenosaga make FFX look short-winded. Shadow Hearts was much better in this aspect, but was overshadowed.

Have you played FF X International?

It is rather extreme. I found myself wondering why they even bothered to give me control of the characters for one short screen worth of walking.

Meh, gameplay was neat but the game itself is a pain to sit through imo.

No, but I know the changes you're talking about.
