To me Fable felt like a reboot of Quest for Glory more than anything else. Just missing that quirky sense of humor.isiolia wrote:Could almost put the Fable games in this category.

another game that would maybe fit the bill of newer zelda games is Okami. I have a lot of fond memories of it and i remember it being a perfect replacement while i waited for a new zelda game.

FARTING FART FARTS, that was the extent of Fable's humor.Hatta wrote:To me Fable felt like a reboot of Quest for Glory more than anything else. Just missing that quirky sense of humor.isiolia wrote:Could almost put the Fable games in this category.
Re: Zelda-like games.
What, no Shadow of the Colossus? It's basically a stripped down Zelda game.

Lack of humor aside (although there wasn't that many flatulent jokes in the first Fable, if any at all), I still think that Fable was a good action-RPG. I only wish it were more difficult in more places and the world a little more fleshed out and longer.isiolia wrote:Could almost put the Fable games in this category.
Re: Zelda-like games.
Foxhound already pointed out the Genesis Oasis game, there is also one for the Saturn.
On the PC there is Dink Smallwood, pretty decent game that is probably not very well known to the console players.

Complete with brain-damaging side effects... Darksiders' puzzles were all super basic.Hazerd wrote:Darksiders, it's Ocarina Of Time on Steroids

Re: Zelda-like games.
All the ones in this thread so far are either pretty good or almost as good as a real Zelda game; this one, however, is better than a real one: Elemental Gimmick Gear. Some games are worth getting for your Dreamcast; this one is worth getting a Dreamcast for. It's never been ported, has amazing gameplay, and the soundtrack... oh my God the soundtrack.
Listen to that in another tab, and when it ends, go to any related video. Keep doing that until you order the game for the music alone- which, by the way, isn't even the best part. As I mentioned, the gameplay is amazing; leveling up actually feels like a feat, and is a vast improvement upon Zelda's piece of heart system (one type of item increases your health a la a heart container, but there's capsules that correspond to three stats that, once you collect three of, increase that stat by one). Every item feels useful, no exceptions. The Hookshot equivalent and something that acts like Pegasus Boots but lets you stay in control, however drains your health stay equipped at all times; hold the punch button to charge up your grappling arm, or the cancel button for the health draining spin attack. There's a massive dungeon that you keep returning to a la that one from Phantom Hourglass, except not annoying. Items are the only thing keeping you from proceeding, not a time limit. Secrets are everywhere; I can't find a single guide on the internet that's found all 21 capsules. Beating the intro boss 100 times in a row gets you a near-invincible item. I could go on for a while about other stuff, but I don't want to spoil anything. Also, the gameplay is 2D, like LttP, but bosses switch to 3D, and it works.
