I recently discovered the store I usually frequent for my retro needs has phased out all Sega games. That was a sad day.... The employee working couldn't even tell me why, just that they would no longer take anything Sega. Don't they know Sega does what Nintendont?

Just Sega stuff? Not all systems before a certain date? That is strange.

But for real, that's profiling. I'm offended.

Happens all the time here too. Unfortunately Sega is the ghetto brand of video game technology for most people.
According to most idiots running shops and selling stuff purely for the profit:
It looks, cheaper (ie, smaller carts, smaller consoles, model 1's look like an 80's computer, etc...)
Feels cheaper (ie smooth, not textured plastic)
Seems less technologically advanced (controller and AV plugs are more delicate and look like 80's computer connectors (because they are))
Only has a few infamous games of note while the rest of the catalog is purely sports games that take up space and will never ever sell, EVER.
Take into account as other have mentioned most people in the 90's that owned a genesis got burned in one way or another with add-ons, etc... and it creates a toxic environment around the stuff that stigmatizes it long after the events have passed.

One of the local pawn shops did pretty much the same thing. Won't buy anything sega and if they get the games (they come out of pawn) they price them to leave asap.

But that's just weird. They're still video games. It's not like nobody wants them, except for them apparently. haha

Yea it is odd, retro video games are retro video games, you'd think they of all people wouldn't discriminate against a cherished company such as Sega.

If you knew the area its a dry spot for sega. Once in a while something nice shows up but other wise no stores have anything good. If you do see anything its genesis but nothing for any other sega system.

So it likely sold very poorly and if it sells poorly you won't buy it.

I honestly feel like it's because most of the Genesis carts they get are the sports titles, which are literally worth a dime a dozen. Because those don't sell, they probably assume anything Sega-related won't sell. For years all I've seen in thrift stores were NFL and NHL games, which sucks because I used to find awesome stuff all the time.

My local used shop has plenty of Sega Genesis games, plenty of which are non-sports titles, they also have Dreamcast, Game Gear, Master System, and even a few Sega Saturn and Sega CD titles. But unfortunately for me, she knows there value.
