Did you guys ever spray paint lego stuff? I did it with the visors all the time, making them all black, red, or something like that. Haha.

I never had any of the pirate/medieval sets, just pure sci-fi. I've got a dozen or so sets of the earlier Star Wars stuff too, never got the Millennium Falcon though.

Yeah there may be too much lego blogs, but the same can be said for videogames!

Todays young is tomorrows old. Many of us as kids had legos and now that we are older we still love them. We are never too old to like the stuff we had as kids.

Not growing up may be an option, but we have the right to take our time.

I remember seeing some real scientific types that make 3D artwork and Fractal type stuff with legos and they look really cool.
~~~~~~
Legos are expensive but if you know where and how to look you can get lots of legos for real cheap.
If you got time and patience, you can collect lego pieces form the bottom of toyboxes all over fleamarkets and yard sales. If you dont care about owning full sets in boxes, then you can collect loose pieces and go from there.
I never bought a lego set from the store. My parents were too poor to pay $30+ on a lego set that would be thrown all over the floor. But My mom would give me some bucks when we went to the fleamarket and I would grab a whole bunch of loose legos for a few bucks, sometimes by the bagfull. I would use my imagination to make whatever I wanted.
I still have my legos in a huge 18 gallon bucket. I do pull it out once in a while and let my young cousins have at it. One time I built a tractor like vehicle (lots of mismatched colors tho) with my little cousin and I was real proud of it. Didn't take it apart for about a month. It was about two feet long almost a foot tall and had six large rubber wheels and lots of moving parts! Should have taken a pic of it.
The internet is full of passionate people and we are fall into that category.
I had those! I build the log cabins and used them as bases for my action figures.
I read somewhere awhile back that the reason Lego got so heavily into making licensed stuff was they weren't doing so good financially. Their manufacturing is rather expensive, and they're pretty secretive about it. But for injection molded toys they have very high tolerances, you can barely see any seam lines on any pieces and it's very rare to get a piece that doesn't fit right. There's nothing terribly special about hwat it takes to do that, it's just expensive. I'm really glad that they're getting back to their normal sets though. The Creator sets looks really nice, Space Police are back, and so is the City line. I'm not crazy about the current Alien and Ninja sets, but they're still pretty cool.
I'm still waiting for Blacktron and Mtron to make a comeback personally, I'd spend way to much money on those sets.
Lego is pricy, but you get what you pay for. Those little blocks are machined just right to fit together. Ever tried generic Lego? Make a suspension bridge with Lego and one with generic blocks, you'll be able to make a much longer bridge with the good stuff.
As far as I'm concerned, all the special sets with special pieces should just go away. Just sell blocks and leave the rest up to imagination.
We had the Futuron sets when I was a kid. When they introduced the pirate ships my older brother got the Cutter, while my cousins who had the Yellow Castle got the Pirate Ship. I loved the Dragon Knights and Wolfpack back in the day.
I have two younger cousins that were always given new Lego sets. Their father traveled out of the country often for work so they got them every other week. At one point several of us sat down and hashed out a fiction about the world in their basement. They probably had close to a million Legos at the time - no joke, their playroom was the basement and almost the entire floor and shelving units were covered in lego builds. It literally was, if you could dream it, you could make it. My oldest cousin, who would sit them in the summer, ended up taking parts from a hovercraft and creating this super tank that was the leader of the one of the armies. They have pictures of some of the creations somewhere.
My favorite set of all time was my oldest brothers monorail:
Followed by the first big set I paid for myself - The Firebreathing Fortress:
The Monorail is on my tall dresser and the fortress is in my closet above my out of season clothing.
I watched a couple TV specials about the company and they have less than seven (7) mistakes per million blocks made. That is better than the US Mint!
My first set was Starfleet Voyager. I wore the gold off the logo bricks pretty quickly because I was playing with them so much. Mobile Rocket Transport got a ton of play with its nice flexible suspension. The first set I bought for myself was Galaxy Commander. For some reason I got a lot of Christmas money that year. My parents weren't too happy that I wanted to spend it all at once on one thing not even a week later. That set was $50!
