Why choose anything else? Because, some people have different taste

Personally, while I -can- play with a 360 controller, I far prefer a quality arcade stick.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

Mod a couple controllers to a gutted Keyboard Encoder PCB. Guaranteed to work on any PC or Mac game that uses the Keyboard.

Used to be a strict keyboard user until I bought an arcade stick and now it's all I use. Could just be me justifying my purchase though, I still don't mind keyboards.
Controllers though, they suck, I can't play a shmup with a controller

Magic 3-in-1!
The older one, that supported Saturn. It was cheaper than the SS USB pad that came out(sold out) of late. Plus, I have a pile of SS pads.
I want one of these so bad so that I can use my saturn pads and arcade stick

Re: What controller do you use for shmups on the PC?
I use a SFIV arcade stick, but I have had issues with at least 2 doujin shmups on this setup yet most other games work fine. Can anyone point me to a guide on mapping keyboard games to a controller/arcade stick.

I used to use my Steel Battalion controller occasionally via USB adapter before I sold it.
It was pretty cool using the stick and trigger but it wasn't always the most optimal to play. Now I just use use my Logitech wireless controller.

I just plug in my PS3 controllers.
If I (still) had a USB Saturn pad, I would use that. The PS3 controller does the job, though.
I'm surprised at all the people using 360 pads. Really? Doesn't the d-pad on it drive you nuts? Of course it's fine for games that work better with the analog stick, but... why use the it for the d-pad when much better options exist? Likewise, I noticed a lot of people are still using USB>PS2 adapters. Wouldn't a PS3 controller be less of a mess of wires? I guess if you already had that set up, and don't have a PS3, it'd be silly to blow the extra money.

I've used utilities like this before with much success. I don't think this is the exact one I usually use but it's close and should work if you're a windows user.
