Are you picking up this cable? Can you let us know how it works?
Does anyone have sound issues like the SNES mentioned here with the N64? I been looking into picking up all the stuff to get RGB out of the 2 consoles and time and time again I'm glad I've held off trying to make sure the right way to go about it.

First of all, you need to mod the n64 to get RGB out of it.
Secondly, I use the same cable on my RGB modded n64 and don't have the buzzing. For what it's worth, the buzzing that you CAN hear on the SNES is pretty quiet. I didn't even notice it for a long time and still don't if i'm not looking for it.
I find the buzzing on the N64 is simply drowned out because the games on that console are way louder than the SNES. Anyway, in Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (for example) when all the menus are open it's as loud as the music itself! Doesn't happen with the composite cables I have.
I'll be sure to let you all know if it worked or not once I get it.

Yeah I know about the need to mod, though, theres been several ways of apparently running 3 wires, and depending on how its done you need an amp either in the cable or inside the console. I haven't really nailed down just yet what is the definitive way to do it now, and have the best results.
As of now I believe I can get away with buying that amp inside cable from retro accessories seller but I'm not sure which method of mod to use it with yet for a 04 revision board. I'm waiting on an answer from the seller (assuming they know).
dogman91 wrote:Yeah the store I bought it from on eBay specializes in making RGB cables specifically for US consoles. I suppose I might try random ones until the buzzing is gone... seems to be the only way so far as I don't want to try modding anything.
Find out if those RGB cables are Japanese or European. If they mentioned Scart, it's probably European.
By the way, how are you connecting these cables to your American TV?
Americans need a special cable as he's saying. European cables aren't fully compatible with a US SNES, while most of our very few TVs with Scart input use European wiring.
The real underlying cause of our RGB problem was that no physical connection got standardized here. So companies tried weird methods like BNC connectors, 9 pin d-sub (male or female depending on model!), etc, on some computer monitors.
Hey, new to the forums. I have the same problem as the original poster. bought an RGB PAL SNES cable off eBay, image comes out alright but theres a weird moire pattern especially on solid colours, looks crap. also the audio hums especially when the screen is bright.
did anyone come to a conclusion? I'd really like to sort it out and get proper RGB picture. If the cable is worthless, anyone know the best place to get a high quality one (somewhere that ships to Ireland!)
Rumor suggests SNES model 1 may have issues in its RGB/s-video circuit. Reports vary so I'd take it with a grain of salt.
Model 2 improved them, but disabled their output (WTF?). It also was never released in PAL regions. Hence model 2 needs modding to restore RGB, s-video, and PAL.
