So I guess we have to just agree to disagree. I know it has lots of fans. I don't want to bog down this thread with more of my 'I don't get it' feelings.

I´m 100% with this guy, but shenmue 3 would be awesome for the fans.

And extremely expensive, you have to remember how pricey the first game was to make for SEGA.

I'm a Shenmue fan too but I'd much rather see Space Harrier 3. :)

I feel for all the fans, and I hope the game gets made. However, as far as I can see, for Sega to fund a new Shenmue would be foolish. Neither of the first two were huge sellers (especially considering the budget of the first game), and today it's popularity level falls squarely in the "cult" category. Today's development environment would not allow for the type of budget or production value that fans would expect- Shenmue 3 would be unlikely to move the number of copies that would warrant a AAA budget, and a smart funder would apply a much more modest budget to meet modest sales expectations. Hence, fans would end up getting a B-Grade game.

We cannot also forget that corporate nostalgia will not help Shenmue 3 get made either. The Sega of today is a completely different entity than it was in the Shenmue days.

I bought Shenmue in 2000, at a pawn shop for $10 in mint condition, best 10 bucks I spent ever. I have never felt an emotional connection with a character in a game as much as I did with Ryo and the story in general.

I really enjoyed the series, and want an HD remake of the first 2 on 360, with better controlls for the first game, as it didn't use analog for movement on part 1, but part 2 did.

I can understand why the masses don't get sucked in by it, it is a life simulator, and isn't for everybody, but for those that love it, nothing compares.

Shenmue is the epitome of Cult Classic, and I would like it to remain that way, but still be available to the masses.

I think this is great news. They should release it for the Dreamcast, but sadly that won't happen. I'd be happy with it on the Wii.

Well, games are bigger than movies now, and bigger money makers, so I think they can pull this off if they can justify making 4 Yakuza games, why can't they at least finish the spiritual sucessor to that series? Many things from Shenmue live on in those games, but I don't buy them becuase they don't appeal to me. It's just not the same experiance to me.

I think more people know about Shenmue now since it has been in the news the past 2 years, and Dreamcast is now popular again sega thinks, or they wouldn't have released the Dreamcast collection. I think they are testing the waters, and think that now with Dreamcast games comming out on Xbla and everything, they just need to release 1 and 2 with HD resolution and they would be big sellers if they did a good quality port.

If Sega can let the Blue hedgehog die and focus on other mascots, they can get the true hardcore fans to buy their games again.

I think it should be done, they just need to give Suzuki another chance.

This is fantastic news, in theory, but as much as I'd love to see it, I won't believe its happening until it actually does.

That being said though, if the game is actually made, I'll be the first in line to buy it.

If I wasn't already married, I'd propose to you right now.

You're definitely right that a lot of people can't articulate why they love the games. Try as I might, I'm one of them, and I'm never able to muster a good argument when it comes up. The only thing that's easy to say is the typical "You either like it or you don't".

I think you did a pretty damn good job of it here though.

Has anyone considered that it could be made as a 3DS title or something?
