 I used to be like that but I'm kinda over it now I'm more of a Silent Hill nut. But if I want zombies I can always play the old ones along with the Chronicles games.
Michi wrote:"Hrmmm. The President's daughter has been kidnapped by staggering, mumbling, village people. Let's send in....One Man!" Shouldn't something closer to a SWAT team be sent in? I think it would've made more sense if Leon had just gone in to investigate Umbrella and found some poor village girl/sacrifice and tried to save her. Would have made more sense.
That's actually a good story line because it's plausible. I could really see that happening and it'd be an effective way to get the game started.
...
...
But that isn't what they wrote... The reaction of the president had to go something like this:
"Sir! Your daughter has been kidnapped!"
"Oh fiddlesticks!, What do we do?"
"We have the military ready and waiting your command to engage the situation."
"No, forget that plan. That sucks. Go get that crazed, ex-cop who won't stop rambling on about the walking dead. That's who we need!"
***
I thought the story was kinda bad in the earlier titles but now that I think about it they're freaking masterpieces.

There's just so much that doesn't make sense. And I have no clue what the whole Las Plagas parasite was. I want to say it was some ancient parasite because I remember a part in the game where they were being excavated out of a mine. I could be wrong though. But if I'm right that just adds a whole new layer of complexity that I just don't wish to explore right now.

I had a weird dream where Resident Evil's live action cutscenes starred Bruce Campbell.

Just thought I'd share.

Alright guys, thanks for all the input.

As was suggested, I'll start with RE1. However, Brunoafh is right that most of my bad memories of the series start with the psone original (sorry fans! no offense), so that in mind, I'll be getting REmake. A gamestop nearby has a copy of the wii version, (a wii port of the gamecube remake of the psone original. Lord, games are funny sometimes) which is nice and convenient, so I'll be picking that up in the next couple of days.

I've decided that, whether or not I have fun with it right away, I will finish this game come hell or high water.

That said, I'll come on and post my thoughts while I play. I'm actually really looking forward to it.

Wish me luck!

My mind just exploded.

Best intro ever by the way.

To some above, I think it's very easy to say the story IS pretty bad in all of them, but the old games had a lot of charm. Same with RE4, they were just ... campy! Fun stuff.

Just to clarify, I think a lot of times it is forgotten that RE 4 still uses tank controls. The removal of fixed camera angles and combat changes really did bring a boost to the series though. However, I'm still undecided whether or not RE 4 should even be considered canon to the first three games. It kinda ditched the whole fighting an evil corporation plot line and makes you... rescue the president's daughter??? What does the president have to do with shambling corpses and why do they only send in one guy to rescue her? And whether or not they really are zombies anymore is just personal opinion.

(kinda half-way ranting here... )
My opinion exactly.

I preferred the alpha build.

It seemed much more plausible and inline with the canon of the series. A lot of people complained that it's ghosts and not zombies (which are more plausible, apparently) but I just saw that as Leon losing his mind after going through what he did in Resident Evil 2.

Regarding the Las Plagas thing, I don't really know a lot about the whole Resident Evil plot line but I thought Wesker wanted controllable 'zombies'. Zombies aren't controllable, whereas the Las Plagas were but you achieve the same result in the end. Far less messy. It made more sense from a power mad control freak like Wesker.

Ok, so first of all, that RE4 Alpha looks really cool. I like the ghosts, and the way the camera swings around is pretty slick.

Anyway, after some screwing around with different stores, I found a copy of the gamecube version of REmake, and started playing it yesterday.

I'm really enjoying it so far honestly. I still think the controls suck, even after getting used to them (I'll never change my mind about this, tried a demo of RE5 months back, controls for that suck too) but the game's atmosphere is stunning, and I'm having fun poking around this damn mansion.

I've only had one death so far, luckily. I've just gotten to the area with sharks underneath the residence. One shark caught my leg and kept me still for a while, and I was eaten alive by a gigantic shark right after. Surprised me, and pissed me off big time, because I felt like I got punked and I hadn't saved in a while.

However, I made up for my lost progress (after almost throwing the tv remote), escaped the sharks on my second attempt, and I just got into the control room, where I paused to take a break. How far in am I?

Game's creepy in general, which is good, but I've only had one real scare so far. You know the first time you go to the big room with the bar in the residence, and a spider crawls down behind you blocking the door you just entered from? Holy fuck, seeing that thing was a shit your pants moment.

Only thing that I have a question about is a technical thing. What's up with the cutscenes? They feel really jerky with hard cuts, and the game clearly loads each angle change. Is that a result of the game's camera system? Its weird, and although I've gotten used to it now, it was really jarring when I first started.

All told though, good stuff! I'm happy to be enjoying the game, and I think once its all over, I'll probably continue to the next game.

Oh, before that though, should I play this game a second time with the other character? I started with Jill because I read her game is easier. Is Chris's game different enough to warrant another run?

Chris' game is certainly a lot tougher. I've gotten a little far in his game, but items are changed around (especially keys and such) and some minor differences like that, some events play out differently, etc. Instead of meeting up with Barry at times, you meet with Rebbecca (from RE0). However the biggest thing and almost deal breaker to me, is that his inventory is 2 items smaller than Jill's. It's kind of more annoying than anything else to me...

Well I beat the game yesterday.

All said and done, I had a lot of fun with the game. I'm kind of surprised by that, but its a pleasant surprise. It's honestly a shame that I didn't properly play this sooner, but I'm glad I did now.

I'm gonna set it aside for a couple of days, then go back and play through Chris's game. After that, RE2.
