There's not really a designation for the different styles in survival horror, but I'd compare these guys mostly to slasher films: the Clock Tower series, Haunting Ground, and Hellnight. In them you don't fight, you run. Run run run as fast as you can, and pray to God the thing chasing you doesn't get you, because if it does, you're dead. Clock Tower 3 is probably the most accessible of the lot, but its plot is incredibly cheesy.
Silent Hill SM count here?
Yeah, I'd say Silent Hill: Shattered Memories counts as one of these, though it still fits the psychological horror bill as well.

Haha wow, yeah that is a little beyond "funny/bad". I'll have to check it out sometime though.
It's one I haven't picked up yet, but from what I've seen, I plan on looking into it. If you grab it first, let me know.

None to my knowledge, though don't quote me on it.

I agree, I find horror games where you play a super soldier/super cop/super anything that is trained for deadly survival situations to not be as scary, since you are playing as someone meant to handle the worst of the worst. It's one of the reasons why I prefer Resident Evil 2 to the rest of the series; instead of a pair of elite police officers, we instead get a rookie cop and a cop's sister. Thinking back on the main line of games, it's the only time in the series where that happens, as it's established in Code Veronica that Claire's become quite the bad ass, and Chris (supercop) is the other playable character.
