For Sony buffs, you'll be interested to know that there's no Memory Stick slot here, but there is support for microSD cards.
Micro SDHC slots are pretty much standard in all Android devices. I'm not sure whether Sony really had an option here.

I have an android phone and a psp (which only leaves the house when I am on dispatch). I never lose my phone but it does take a abuse (I do use it in the rain and keep it in my pocket when I do dishes at work). I am wondering how much abuse these can take. I have had a g1 since a little after launch. Because I was on my mom's plan and now on my own, I have another 2 years before I am off my contract (not that needed a new phone or care). When I am off contract and this has been hacked, I will get one (not going to pay to play games I already own hard copies of). I say things like this and I still haven't hacked my psp3000.

I was on the edge, but I can see myself going for this idea.

I'm one of the few PSPgo owners I know, and I can't help but say I love the little device. Sure I can't buy used games, but it works for me.

On top of that, I use my android phone for emulating SNES and NES all the time. Combine those two, I can't see any reason that this isn't a awesome idea for a gaming machine. One con I can see is that the battery will suffer for this device if it is going to be both your phone and your gaming system on the go.

Another thing... They didn't confirm that it will be on the PSN, right? It'd be a horrid waste if all it could play was the Playstation mini games due to the specs given.
If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?

I assume Niode has already pre-ordered several of these.

I like the idea of an Android phone with a gamepad. Even if that's all this really turns out to be, all joking aside, I sort of like it. BUT, if that's what it is, then it needs to stay as OPEN as an Android phone ought to be, and that's something I've got absolutely no confidence in Sony to uphold.

Sadly, "Android" and "open" are two words that simply aren't going together, at least over here in North America. Every manufacturer has their own interface, their own lockouts, their own features/software. There are now even phones that if you try and root them and install your own custom ROM, the phone simply reinstalls its stock rom when you reboot.

I've got myself a G1, and I'm thankful that I can use it to run custom roms -- but come time for a new phone, as much as I like Android, it won't be another Android phone. (Even if it does look and operate like my favourite PSP model, the PSP Go!) The customizability and openness we were promised by Google has been shat all over by the carriers.

I don't think anyone would be buying a phone like this for Android in particular -- this phone is going to be so locked down we're going to need to redefine the word. Piracy on any mobile phone platform is ridiculously easy, and you know Sony is going to incorporate what they've learned on the Go to this project.

I can see where you're coming from there. Compared to Linux desktops and servers, that's pretty locked-down indeed. But compared to Apple's iPhone or most game consoles? Android is still way open when you look at it coming from there.

Sony is going to try to lock down this phone much tighter than Verizon and Motorola have done to the new generation of Droids. I expect it to make even the AT&T Motorola Backflip look like it's running Debian by comparison.
