Besides the games you listed, i cant really think of any other reasons. I grew up with ps1 and im a big fan of final fantasy and resident evil. Metal gear solid is amazing as well. I just prefer the controller over the dreamcast. i cant stand how the cord comes out of the bottom, but the memory card with the screen is pretty badass.

I hear people say this about the NES and SNES a lot too.
Huh? What people? The people that were into the 2600? I can see why people who were into Space Invaders would look down on The Legend of Zelda. I guess it doesn't demand the same level of twitch skill and score getting, but it was a necessary switch that made home games much more enjoyable, longer and worth spending more than 25 cents and 3 minutes on.
The PS1 / N64 was massively influential, so much so that we're still playing games with the same basic ideas today. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is mostly played the same way Super Mario 64 was, it just has better graphics and more interesting physics and more varied goals. The shift from 2D to 3D was essential. But now that we've been spoiled for so long with games that are 3D and good, I can't see any reason to go back and play games that are just 3D.

Because varied does not necessarily mean good.
I tried to like the PS1, I really did. Besides the JPRG explosion (Grandia, Star Ocean, FFVII, FFVIII, Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve are the ones I've played) there are no PlayStation games worth playing. The other one is Symphony of the Night; that is good. Other than that, I cannot play the games. The graphics are so damn ugly. I just can't do it. And I really tried. I played Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Solid, Spider-Man, Resident Evil and I just can't get past how much they make my eyes hurt and my hands strain at the inevitably shitty controls.

There are so many things wrong with this post I don't even know where to begin
EDIT: And I'm reading this on a retro forum no less. The irony

While I don't entirely agree with his statement and definitely disagree with the choice of words he used to describe it, I don't think it warrants this level of hostility. He has trouble playing early 3D games, and frankly, I can agree with him that some of the PS1 and N64 generation consists of an eyesore. Many titles in the generation haven't aged well in the graphics department, and some suffer from faulty controls and camera work because developers weren't quite comfortable with the perspective change yet. I don't feel he should have written off the entire library of either console, and he's definitely got a very strong opinion about it that comes off a bit too harsh, but...well, he's not entirely wrong.
Well, you know what you gotta do... box up your next-gen consoles and spend a few weeks away from all the high-def games and all that. Then plug in your PS1 or Saturn and then you'll approach those games with a slightly different set of eyes and expectations.
I'm not a fool. I understand that it can sometimes be difficult to go back to a game like Goldeneye after you're used to playing newer games with dual-analog support and ultra-realistic graphics. But see I'm a product of the NES generation and so I think I've learned to appreciate many video games for what they are rather than what they are not. And really, a fun game is a fun game to me. Graphics are less important. I think that's the personification of a true retro gamer - someone who has knowledge on the history of video games and will always appreciate a good/classic game no matter how old and ugly it may look now. It's easy to bash games 10+ years later, anyone can do it. But can you honestly beat Super Mario Bros. in one sitting without using any warps? *Not PS1-related but you get the idea*
