I don't see what's so misleading about Phalanx. It has a space ship, and it clearly states that it's a shmup. They put the banjo guy in for comic effect.

Well that's fair to say but the idea in theory makes much more sense than the execution. I mean I didn't even notice the little pixellated ship in the background until your comment made me look again. I get it, the guy is like holy crap a space ship just went by, but it's a terrible joke and executed horribly.

Oh it's definitely real. That and the other one with the guys eyes being held open I vividly remember in ad form in Electronic Gaming Monthly.
