These are the TOP of the HD gaming world now that Pioneer isn't making Plasma's anymore, but from his description it looked like he was looking for a standard def TV.

If you cant find a Triniton. You should check out some of the early the JVC TV's from 1991-1993. I have a 22" that is pretty incredible, quality close to that of a Triniton. Plus it has In/Out audio, plus S-Video.

Ditto.

We've got a JVC from 1987 in a spare room that is AMAZING. Apparently after some research I found out that JVC sold Japanese studio monitors as normal TV's in the US for a few years circa '85-'93. Mine is luckily one of those monitors ans the easiest way to test is plugging it up to cable and not getting any channels under a certain level thanks to them still having NTSC-J tuners which differ slightly from NTSC-U/C standard which is used in the US and Canada.

I've always wondered why I could never get the tuning right on the damn thing... makes sense now I guess. Without the buttons I cant access the lower channels at all.

Yeah, mine never got any channels below 28 so we just always used a VCR as the Tuner.

I'm also impressed by the feature set on some of these older JVC TV's. Mine has he ability to connect normal external speakers without the need for an amp as the TV has one built in and even has hidden mounts to hook shielded speakers into the sides of the set's cabinet.

Mine has an audio pass through (as well as video) which wont disconnect the audio from the tv's speakers. Usually on newer sets when you plug in audio cables the speakers turn off. This TV they remain on which is pretty awesome since I can record my game on the PC while still playing on my TV.

Ah so you have a monitor out in addition to your normal audio out?

Usually there's a setting to disable speakers in most menus on JVC's it's even got the option on my set from '87.

I was just in two different goodwills and was amazed at how overpriced the god awful furniture was. I'm talking stuff I wouldn't subject a coaster to touching. There's a Big Lots right up the street from there and for an extra $100 you can get a brand new couch vs goodwill's bodily fluid buffet.

Hmm, looks like your goodwill might not always get the best stuff......

The best luck me and my friend have ever has is by going to this one goodwill the next town over. It's perfectly positioned in that it's next to several upscale neighborhoods so we always end up finding tons of ridiculously cool stuff for dirt cheap. Maybe it's a strategy to think about shooting for with the goodwills in your area to save some cash an or get a nice standard def Trinny for cheap?

Jrecee wrote:I can't imagine a 42" version of this thing. It takes 2 and a half people just to lift it. I'm pretty sure the stand it's on came with it, unfortunately it's kinda ugly and in crap condition but I've had no luck finding another stand that could support this thing. All the tv stands they make today are meant to hold 50 pound flat screens not 300 pound cubes.
Agree, and all the weight is towards the front, in the HD Tube. If the shelf holding the HD CRT is not very robust, you could add a center thick vertical support under the shelf straight down to the base and floor.

Modman's suggestion of Goodwill might be a good idea. Older stands there that are made to support CRTs.
