Final Fantasy XIII on Wii?

Not really. I'm in the process of taking a game from a 256-color setup to a nearly limitless color setup. While I am having to redo a lot of stuff, many of the things that looked fine in 256 I can leave that way.

However, if I were downgrading from the limitless to the 256-color limit, EVERYTHING would have to be overhauled - because just forgetting to convert one thing would screw it up.

Also, if SE just haphazardly downgraded everything, it would look terrible - and that takes away a large portion of why most folks play a Final Fantasy game these days. It would have to be very careful, very precise work. While they'd be fully aware they couldn't make it as good, they'd also be fully aware that they would be held to the same standard as "The Last Story", which looks phenomenal.

wha...hu....how.....why...........................................................why would you think the wii doesn't support the basic function of disk based consoles? yeah it's not exactly state of the art hardware, but it's not total garbage. it can do at least what the previous gen managed.
You misunderstood. I love the Wii. I'm talking from the perspective of the Wii firmware. I'm not certain if the act of ejecting a disc to switch is supported in the Wii firmware.

The Wii doesn't deserve ports. Nintendo intentionally released a console that was considerably weaker than the competition in terms of specs and no Wii owner should actually EXPECT ports. This baffles me. If you want to play FF 13, you buy a 360 or a PS3. You don't buy a Wii to play games like that

And FF 13 with downgraded graphics would be a sin. I criticize FF 13 for a lot of things, but it is a GORGEOUS game and I would have to shoot someone for releasing a visually pared down crap Wii port

the7k yeah I guess you are right

MrPopo you might be right, still I would be shocked if that is true. any idea if there are any multi disk games on the wii?

if there aren't I'm betting the last story will be the first.

As far as I know there aren't any.

I agree with you Gamerforlife, but not in the way you phrase it. I think Wii users shouldn't expect ports because a port won't take advantage of the control options available on the Wii and will suffer graphically. There's nothing wrong with games being exclusive between platforms, though honestly there isn't much difference between the 360 and PS3 from a capabilities standpoint. Yes, you can make one look better than the other using certain hardware tricks but on the whole you can make a high-end graphical game look great on both platforms. The Wii, by nature of it's lower graphical power, needs to be treated differently to make visually appealing games. You don't need hyperrealism to look good, after all.

Yeah, you phrased what I was getting at about Wii ports better than me. I just don't believe in Wii ports. That system needs to cater to its strengths, which is not making ports of games that were intended for higher spec systems. Course, this is coming from a purist.

Now what you said about the PS3 and the 360 being similar and how you can make a multi-platform game look great on both systems, well....I wish that actually happened more often as it seems most games suffer graphically in one version or the other(or we get performance issues in one version but not the other). This is kind of annoying for me because I want the best for my money and always have to do some research before I know what version of a game to buy(which is the annoying part) Though I have found the Lens of Truth and Digital Foundry sites extremely useful for that purpose

A) yeah this is so true. I loved when Konami put some true effort in porting their PES franchise to the Wii. Pretty fun (yet different) game.

B) ah man don't waste any time thinking about stuff like that. most of the time you can't tell the difference. it's just fanboy bait so websites can score hits. I've only seen 2-3 games that there is actually a huge difference.

I think the no disc switching is the reason that Datel gave when they were going to make a freeloader for Wii. They said the hardware simply won't support the product.

Does freeloader for GC work on the Wii?

Porting this game to Wii now is unfeasible endof.. However had Nintendo cared enough to have it on their platform it could have been possible for a "special" Wii version to be developed alongside the main project.

the way you use special is like saying the wii version would be retarted
