Fun Topic: What game will you make?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Probably inspired by my recent bout of playing Link's Awakening, but my idea is a top-down action/adventure game. It takes place in 2004, and ten years ago all sound in the world mysteriously disappeared. Nobody knows why, but mankind will inevitably adapt. In lieu of verbal communication, most people carry around notebooks or just text each other. Your main character is a 19-year old college dropout working in an electronics repair store who collects instruments and Walkman players. One day a crazy dude busts into his shop screaming, despite the fact nobody can hear him. He manages to lip-read what he is saying, and evidently the man claims he can hear again. Before his manager forces the man out of the shop, he drops a business card, which you pick up.

Following this man's clue, you come to a bar that acts as a hangout for out-of-work musicians. After talking to some of the people, a guy gets up and starts a shootout in the bar. He kills everybody in the restaurant, and then himself. You were included in this.

Yet, five days later, you come to in the middle of the crime scene. You see the ghost of the crazy dude, who thanks you for finding the card, and apologizes for the inconvenience. He goes on about a conspiracy that caused the Silence, and charges you with investigating and uncovering the truth. Next thing you know you're naked in a morgue with a tattoo you're sure you didn't have before. Taking off your toe tag, you get dressed and follow the trail started by the dead musicians.

Dungeons take the form of warehouses, office buildings, sealed-off districts, and prisons. Your weapons range from bare fists in the beginning, to other weapons you'd expect to find in a more modern setting (a fire axe, sledgehammer, gun, etc.). Like Zelda, you would need these to progress in the dungeons and elsewhere. There is no music and sound, since your character is deaf, as is the rest of the world. When your character dies, a continue results in him being respawned in the nearest morgue, dumpster, or sewer. Also, the more you die, the more the tattoo on your body changes, and people are less willing to interact with you. This death penalty resets when a checkpoint (Like a dungeon) is cleared

Once you get far enough, you discover that the man who killed you was part of a government organization (shocker, I know), who kill people who can hear. The blanket deafness was part of a defense initiative to thwart a sound-based mind control system that some crazy cult invented. Those who can hear are a liability and being used to destroy said advice. You also learn about and meet a few psychics, who would have been immune to the mind-control anyways, but still have gone deaf from the device. And of course, you learn about the existence of a non-deaf psychic who happens to be a kid.

You find the kid, and protect them from wave after wave of cultists. He gains your knowledge, and eventually escapes because of you. Your task now complete, the tattoo fades from your body, and you die permanently this time. Before finally passing away, you hear music...

You then take control over the kid for the second part. Alongside using tools like with your first character, you have access to psychic powers (telekinesis, telepathy, teleportation, pyrokinesis, etc.) You also have dungeons that are office buildings and whatnot, and this time you are trying to find the leader of the cult and stop them. You have support from secret agencies, and when you die, you teleport to their last outpost you visited. Eventually you find the device, and the person guarding it is none other than the first main character, reanimated and brainwashed for the cult's bidding since he regained his hearing before dying last time. You kill him for the umpteenth time, and destroy the machine.

At this point I'm considering either having another bait-and-switch and having it turn out that it was the government who mind-controlled through the sound-killing machine, or having it just all return to normal after that. But while not original in the least, that's my idea.

Well, you said if we were in charge of Ubisoft (or EA). I'll take EA. Screw Ubisoft.

Now, if I were EA, here's what I would do - Remake many classic EA games (General Chaos, Battle Squadron, Crusader, Future Cop LAPD) as PSN/XBL/WiiWare titles, with leaderboards and online multiplayer where applicable.

Hmm, most games would have it the other way around.

Sorry, you're too overqualified to be EA.

Why's that? EA has some great licenses and they've really come around - they aren't anywhere near the Evil Overlords that they used to be.

Ubisoft, on the other hand, has the chief export of shovelware. Even their better franchises, such as the Tom Clancy series, Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed, I wouldn't think of as genre defining by any stretch. Maybe it's just because I never enjoyed the games, I dunno.

How about this game to get in the commercial Christmas spirit. I call it "Black Friday: Shop til they drop" The Object of the game is to read all the Black friday deals then get the most deals while getting points for trampiling people, and thrashing them about to get all the deals. It would play like Dead Rising but not as violent and a lot overweight housewifes and no zombies. There would also be driving modes as you are driving to the stores finding the quickest route, cutting people off, and disobeying traffic laws to get to each location on time of opening. These parts will be timed missions only.

You said:
So you are now head of Ubisoft(or EA) , and the company is in financial trouble , and all the investors and fans of your company are depending on you to save their favorite company and their investment. You have $40 million budget, which you don't have to use all of it, to create the next blockbuster top selling game to bring the company back to its feet.
If you're trying to save a company from doom, making a sequel or some rehashed crap that doesn't stray too far from other past good sellers is usually what's going to happen. Small companies might make a gamble on something new, but usually Investors and Board members associated with large established companies frown on $40 million gambles that could kill the company if they fail. :P
yes but we changed scenarios ,because most profitable game will probably be a dull shooter or idiot proof game, which is not what we are after. We want coolest game possible, according to every individual's opinion

First thing I will make is a remake of Shenmue 1 and 2 as one game, Its mostly going to be the same game except with some graphics update, fix up the gameplay, improve the fighting mechanics, Redub the voice overs with the inclusion of an option to play the game in Japanese. Include more games in the arcade and just limited to Suzuki's games, get like most the arcade games there where out up to 1989, and also replace the Saturn with a Genesis and play Genesis games off of it. If I have any extra cash I would hire a full orchestra to redo the soundtrack and include license music to include in the jukebox and Tom's Boombox.

Second, a Cowboy Bebop MMO.
