Modded Playstation SCPH-1001 Need Help Please
Re: Modded Playstation SCPH-1001 Need Help Please
i do alot of PS1 modding/repairing. your chip install looks like it was done by an amateur but it should be okay. you CAN swap the laser pickup from the 5501 into it but you will need to either modify the assembly to fit the 1001 or just take the pickup out of it and put it into the old laser's sled. and you will also need to recalibrate the focus bias/gain on the motherboard. if you cant do it yourself i can do it for you. as for the drive speed question, ALL ps1s use a 2x drive. there's no way to get faster load times by switching the laser pickup, its the drive controller chip that matters and thats on the motherboard itself. there are different revisions of the laser pickup, the best being the KSM-440BAM in the PSone but they are interchangable (though some need modification to fit in right)

Re: Modded Playstation SCPH-1001 Need Help Please
I just picked up a scph-1001 (mine is not modded), and I noticed that it takes a long time to load. It's much slower than my other PS1. Any tips?

you will need a multimeter and some patience as there can be a bit of trial and error before you get it right.
