I've had a ton of issues with Paypal as a seller. I sell intangible (digital delivery) goods though. It really screws me over because Paypal won't protect the seller unless you have a tracking number proving the item was shipped. So I've had scammers buy stuff, get their digital delivery, then chargeback. Nothing can be done
You could start only accepting money orders. Or mail an envelope to the buyer saying that the digitial item has been sent and use tracking on that.

Yes, both possibles. However, in my industry I wouldn't be competitive to do only MOs. Customers have an expectation of digital purchase, and instant download.
For now, I just eat the cost of chargebacks. Its less than what it would cost me to mail out every order with tracking. I still hate it though.
Wow,
I really cant believe this happened but I lost my paypal claim. I guess selling items as-is now means new, and the seller is responsible for buying insurance. Absolutely redicilous.

Ugh, I really want an alternative to paypal, it's horribly unfair and sometimes just weird. I just sold an Ipod Touch on ebay for $270, and paypal froze the money until either the seller gave me positive feedback or 21 days had past. Because of that I had no money to ship the package with, so I called them to complain. They told me that even though I needed the money ASAP and I don't have any money to ship it with I still couldn't get my cash until one of those requirements was met. Thankfully the buyer understood the problem and gave me positive feedback before I shipped the package.
technically the seller is responsible for getting the item to the buyer in the described condition. if this means insuring it, its the sellers responsibility to do so.
however the fact that it worked AT ALL on arrival and was sold as-is means you did that. you held up your part of the deal and got screwed. sorry
Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.

Wow that sucks. So does that mean you have to offer a full refund? Do they take money from your account automatically?
Did you call them? Offer them everything they asked and respond to them quickly? Sorry this happened!! This sucks. This is the main reason I only sell things on Craigslist for cash.

Sorry to hear that, I can't believe it. They've gotten real bad I guess. I haven't used ebay in 3 years as there price to do business is way out of wack.
