How's your NES gaming going? What's your NES library like?

I think Faria is the only action-RPG I still need to pick up on the system. It never really clicked the few times I played it, but I'd love a real copy.

Right now, I'm working on a legit run of Ninja Gaiden III. I'm very, very close. I got to the end boss, but didn't have enough life and died. I think I have a technique that will get me there, I just have to see if I can execute. (In other words, total cheese using Art of the Fire Wheel).

That's common with Faria. It's a time suck I will say that much. You can get into a lot of RPG like random fights on the map and it will drop so little cash it gets just boring early in the game. I never got very far in it before I just gave up due to lack of time so I don't know if that improves. The map is fine, the combat is pretty fun, but the resource(xp/gp) gathering is awful.

NG3 that's one I used to have, but I got rid of the three when I got the SNES Trilogy. I know people dump on it because it's a lazy port, but with them giving the Famicom style format of NG3 and the very valued password system makes it a winner.

I went to a retro game market today and picked up a few games, including 2 for the NES

First up is Shadow Warriors, which is the PAL name for Ninja Gaiden. I've beaten this game before on Virtual Console, but it's nice to own a physical copy!

The other game I bought was Bionic Commando. I've never played it before, but I know people out there love it. I had a quick go for a few minutes to test the game and died a bunch, so I think it'll take some practice to get through this one

If anyone was wondering, I also picked up Ecco: Tides of Time & Alisia Dragoon for Mega Drive and Land of Illusion for Master System whilst I was at it.

Wow, nice haul.

Bionic Commando is one of my favorite games on the NES. I own both the US and uncensored JP versions. It takes a lot of getting used to but once you have the grappling arm mechanics down it feels so good.

Alisia Dragoon is a wonderfully unique game with great art design.

Land of Illusion is the best platformer on the SMS. I love it.

Been meaning to get around to that myself. I was making my way through it and got distracted with other things. Never understood why this game doesn't get more love. It's a better Rolling Thunder than the actual NES port of Rolling Thunder.

As I was doing my post in the Games Beaten thread, I found out CNV was mostly developed by Arc System Works (except for the music/sound, done in house @ Capcom), but they also did the NES port of Rolling Thunder!

I forgot to mention my Code Name Viper clear is part of a special rotating set of NES games I'm trying to play on the Retron 5 every Saturday night. These consist of the games I picked up in the past year from various sources, so expect another clear or two real soon.

Completed The Battle of Olympus. It was a game I was always drawn to, and when I recently had the chance to find it in the wild I grabbed it right away.

I think it's safe to assume my NES gaming is going quite well as of late. An EverDrive-N8 will do that.

I do, however, need to mine some new territory. I find myself consistently going back to my favorites. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but there are some unsung classics that I need to give a shot. Battle of Olympus was part of that, but there's certainly some platformers that I still need to play through, like U-four-ia.

So if someone had to throw out a random... let's say Famicom game to make things more obscure, what would you recommend? I'd prefer action-oriented games. For whatever reason, I can't bring myself to invest a lot of time in the myriad Dragon Quest clones on the system, for example.
