It's called lowest bidder. They probably charge the least and the people running these companies have no clue whom they are since those companies also, classically, don't listen to their non-Japanese branches.

Microsoft uses Digital River for some things as well. Like the Home Use Program for Office. Their servers are also a common source for non-cracked Windows ISOs if you just have a serial number or something.

To a point, I wonder if the variety of services is why. Maybe Digital River offers physical and digital where others do one or the other. I dunno.

As I mentioned, I've never had a problem pre-ordering with them. My Ni No Kuni Wizard Edition arrived fine. In fact, I was worried about my FFXIV PC CE (which was only on the SE store, PS3/PS4 CEs are elsewhere) due to the card getting cancelled...but they still managed to charge the account and it was all seamless.

My main issue was one sale order that literally shipped ~5 months after I placed it due to waiting on a couple items to get restocked. They honored the sale prices and everything, but yeesh, something is broken in the system to let that happen.

Getting back to GOTY releases, I picked up the Borderlands 2 GOTY edition for $20 on amazon. With all that DLC for that price it is a complete steal. That is a definite "To Buy" in my book.

On a related note I mentioned it before but I want to reiterate it: these "second discs" will go up in value. Most likely overnight one of these days I swear.

I do this too. The existence of GOTY, Legendary, Ultimate, etc. versions prevents me from buying too many common games. Moreover, acquiring those versions ensures I will have access to DLC after the servers are shut down, and they tend to be much better collector's items. (Compare the price of ESIII: Morrowind (XBOX) with the price of ESIII: Morrowind GOTY Edition (XBOX).)

I'm the same way. In fact I won't even consider buying some DLC loaded games at all until I can get it all on a disc.

I hear you. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Ultimate Sith Edition is killing me though. The regular version of the game is $5 at most. The version with the DLC is $35+... :? I see the same thing happening with some of the other late-period GOTY versions too, such as Dishonored GOTY Edition, ESV: Skyrim Legendary Edition, Tomb Raider GOTY Edition, etc.

I'm really hoping that Skyrim GOTY edition drops down to $20 or less it's definitely a game I can see myself playing 10-15 years from now and the DLC is quite good. Thankfully I bought the DLC when it was on sale for $5 each when it was normally $20 each.

Deus Ex: Directors Cut is on sale on amazon for $16. I picked that up too today along with the Bioshock set from the very first post for $20.

Only one other game I want to get to round out my collection: Borderlands. This last one has to be an "in person" buy because I remember when it was released the DLC were download codes. Then they tossed it on a second disc. I can't tell which is being sold. Amazon might have it all under one SKU.
