The difficulty really ramps up in the last third. Anyone who beats this without a map, without ever consulting a FAQ, and without the use of save states has my eternal respect.Czernobog wrote:Finally got to sit down with it this morning. I just beat the second dungeon which took me like two hours to find tucked away in the woods. By the time I got there I had long since obtained the Knight Shield, thunder magic, and a heart, but I love losing myself in a wandering adventure like this. I haven't been using a map or faq or save states or anything since for me the game is more enjoyable without them. It's so satisfying when you stumble upon a secret or clue. It's actually really relaxing to just lose myself in the world as I meander about smacking things with an axe.

Re: Together Retro: Golden Axe Warrior
yeah so I realized save states were awesome. So fired up GAW, opened a beer and some chips, and started killing stuff for 100 horns. Upgraded Earth and Thunder magic. Made my way back to dungeon 5 to cross the bri--- HEY! Where'd the bridge go???
...oh, I loaded save state A which was BEFORE I beat dungeon 5. I wanted save state B, which was AFTER I beat dungeon 5.

it's all good -- just did some major Rain Man style gambling. Got that 100 horns back fast.

Eh...I decided I'm just going to draw a map by hand as I explore the levels. Only got about 16 screens mapped so far, but I figure it'll be helpful later (and it'll keep me from needing to check FAQ sites.) I've got like 24 days left, so I should still have plenty of time to finish the game even if I take a few days just to map out the world.

Re: Together Retro: Golden Axe Warrior
D6 sucks. I keep ending up in rooms that require magic to proceed, but I'll be out of magic at that point and then have to backtrack rooms to farm.
