I finally started playing my 3DS which I bought last year some time. The catalyst was finding the DS Konami Collection in the wild for $10.00. I thought I had left the console in its box so I opened it up and "damn, not here". I proceeded to tear my house apart over the next few days looking for it. This was a little bit confronting as there was pretty much a console in every draw/box/bag/shelf I searched. Here a dodgy saturn, there a Mega Drive 2, ah there's that green GBC, and my boxed gamecube etc. etc. It ended up being behind some shit in my incredibly messy studio/spare room, of course.
Anyway, its the Aqua Blue one, boxed and complete all in very good condition. I'm having a lot of fun with it now, playing some online Mario Kart 7. Im going to give SF4 a shot tonight. The first time I played it I found it very awkward to control. To be fair though, I think the best way to play SF by a country mile is with a 6 button MD/Genesis pad and for me nothing comes close.
As for the 3D, I'm impressed that they got it working but it's not for me. I've never seen a 3D film and don't intend to. It's just too easy to move slightly and lose the effect. Also I've noticed in Mario Kart that glancing at the bottom screen forced your eyes to re-adjust and is a bit irritating
I've flicked through most of this thread which has been good for working out what games are getting people hot and bothered. Now for a gripe and a question...
The Virtual Console is a bit crap. Why is the only Sega stuff a smattering of GG games? I was getting excited about downloading some of the more costly shmups, particularly Gleylancer. Do we think this thing will grow to match the Wii VC?
I've been hoping to check out the Advance Wars games. Is it a good idea to begin with the DS ones or should I lash out on the GBA original and sequal? (the reason I took so long to bother with the 3DS is that the GBA:SP has been serving my handheld needs just fine, so going back a few gens doesn't concern me)

Imo the original Advance Wars on the GBA was by far the high point in the series. Best graphics imo (though this has more to do with how they changed the artstyle later on), NO convoluted story (they add a gazzilion characters in the sequels without them serving any purpose), and worst of all: terrible game balance and many useless/overpowered units. The original game had the PERFECT mix of units, and it's the only one checking out imo, just because of that.
BUT, I don't know if the reboot (the second one on the DS) fixed the balance issues, cause I only played the games in the series up to Dual Strike (the first DS Advance wars)

Hope so. I haven't looked in about a month. Did they start putting Turbo Grafx games up yet? Originally they were going for mostly handheld VC games hence the GG games. I'm excited they started uploading more NES games.
I think it'll be a bit before Earthbound makes it to the 3DS, if it even does. I believe they're using it to boost WiiU sales.

Is the 3DS Paper Mario game any good? I am loving Fire Emblem and noticed that Paper Mario is from the same developer.

It's different from the other Paper Mario games in that the story is less wordy and it's more platforming than RPG because you use stickers in the combat and your character does not level up.
I liked the game. I also like Super Paper Mario which many did not like.

It did some. It has some very limited use units, but the overall game is excellent. Story is kinda out there though.

Can't be worse than the convoluted mess that AW:DS was. I should give this game a try then? Limited use units? Limited like the missiles, or limited like the stupid repair ship?

My SMTIV 3DS LL should be here Monday!
So excited. That and my Hatsune Miku Vita. AHHH! Happy birthday to myself, basically. Since my b-day is Monday.

Limited like the repair ship. There is a new infantry called the Bike, which cannot go on mountains, but moves alot faster. Then there is a gunboat that has a one shot missile but can transport a unit, and can be reloaded at a port only. But the Flare was always kinda useless to me. Its primary attack is to reveal fog of war. However it only gets to do that three times before it has to reload, and its only protection is the Recons machine gun. So its like a super expensive recon that moves slow and can show a section of fog of war, sometimes... Oh and they cannot move and shoot. Looking back, the flare was really the unit I did not like, the others were fine.
I agree Dual Strike was possibly the worst of the Nintendo Wars games period. It was all over the place and just silly. Ive actually never beaten Advance Wars 2.

Yeah, the idea of the flare is very interesting but the execution sounds horrible. I don't know....new units to the Advance Wars series after the original game (the GBA one that is) feels like adding new pawns to chess. Yes you can think of something to add, but the game balance would be ruined (or you'd just end up with a useless unit).
Case in point the tanks. The original AW had brilliant balance with the tanks. Tank: quick and cheap, Medium Tank: heavy hitter but expensive and slower. You needed both to win. I never saw the point of getting medium tanks when for a bit more I could get the neo tanks in AW:DS
