From what I recall Shir is mostly good for stealing. I believe she can get Amy's best weapons.

Indeed she can, and my Amy has a pair of them. Usually when I make an RPG party I try to run as many females as the game lets me, but in the case of PSII that would require me to severely gimp my party by including Shir.

There should be a guy, like, right outside your house who mentions it. That is, unless they screwed it up in localization.

Honestly, the townspeople say such mundane bullshit that I don't even bother to talk to them. One town is full of guys that just say "What?"

Finished my business at Shure, and had enough Meseta to buy one Ceramic Knife for Rudo. What's a good suggested level for the Tower of Nido?

I just finished the Tower of Nido at level 7 for rolf and rudo, and I think 14 for nei. Just watch out for the Blasters on the third floor, (they look like purple gas clouds). I got killed a few times by them. They use this terrible attack that hits all your team with 20+ damage. I found that if you use Rolf's Zan power it helps quite a bit, and make sure you are at full health anytime you are on the third floor.

Used Shir to steal a visiphone - the item that allows you to save anywhere. Kind of a moot point, as I'm playing the PSP version which has save states. It's a mandatory item for those folks playing on Genesis and GBA though.

Now I've entered the mountain of Udo. I no longer have pipes obstructing my view, it's clouds instead this time.

I keep going back and forth on whether I want to level Shir up for the visiphone. I hear that it's supposed to be mandatory, but I wonder if it's just because people are soft.

If you are going to play later sections of the game without the visiphone, you are a stronger man than me...I found it to be absolutely essential. (Not because I kept dying - my party was very rarely wiped out - but because it took forever to navigate between save points.)

Takes like 25 minutes to level Shir up to level 10. Not too bad. Once she was leveled I was able to get the visiphone on my 3rd or 4th attempt.
