Well said and I agree. I'm in the minority, but I like the first Uncharted the best probably because of the fact that it "did it first" and was fresh. The second one may have took a lot of the same elements and upped them, but I enjoyed playing through the first one more.BogusMeatFactory wrote:Just Finished Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and have to say that it is pretty disappointed. completely the first in the series and immediately moving on to the second may have been a huge disadvantage to enjoying the game. I found the enemies to be horrifically redundant, having almost the exact same style as enemies from the first i.e. normal soldiers, ones with helmets, ones with combat armor etc.
Another disappointment was the pacing of the game. It was almost exactly like the first, beat for beat. The constant back and forth between the antagonist and protagonist attempting to uncover the secret, the supernatural twists happening at exactly the same time. It feels like there is a formula that they stick to that just lacks imagination. At no point did I feel like there was any natural order to how things went.
The biggest issue I had with the game was the platforming. There were so many instances where you did not know where you were supposed to go. Wandering the environment to find the ambiguous jutting of rock on a wall to climb on to does not make for good level design. In the first, it was clear what you could climb on to and interact with. With the sequel it blended in too well and made finding where you need to go or what you needed to do that much more difficult.
The game isn't bad. It is a solid game, but it lacks imagination. It could be worse though, it could be like the first and have the boss battle be one big QTE.

Always look for something yellow in Naughty Dog games. That's where you're supposed to go next.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

62. Duke Nukem 3D: Life's a Beach (PC)(FPS)
63. Duke Nukem 3D: Nuclear Winter (PC)(FPS)
64. Dead Pixels (PC)(Run and Gun)
Technically it's a run and gun with some RPG elements, such as stat upgrades, weapons to find and purchase, and a pseudo-"quest" system. For $2.99, I was surprised at what kinds of things I got: The base game, a follow-up title with multiple selectable characters, a survival game, and co-op modes for each of these. Factor in slight changes for difficulty, several unlockable game modes (Big Head mode returns!), and randomized bosses, weapons, and store or lootable house locations, and I feel I have happily gotten my $3 worth.
Yes, the game is relatively simplistic: I can shoot or do a close-range melee attack, I can throw an explosive or use a backup item. I move left or right along a broad plain to advance in the game and either avoid or fight my way through hordes of various types of zombies. It's simple. But its random elements do change things, such as different shop locations, barriers such as guard rails or street lights getting in the way, different compositions of zombies, and so forth. I admit that I tend to play each difficulty the same way: farm zombies at the start to raise my abilities and then run through the game, buying up all the ammunition, explosives, and healing items I need to make it to the next store, which serves as the save points.
My only real complaint is that the music has no volume control, which kind of sucks. I enjoy everything else about it: the 1970s grindhouse film opening sequence, the intermission and film grain (both of which can be disabled if you prefer), the large variety of weapons (shotguns, machine guns, assault rifles, pistols, freezing rays, flamethrowers, flareguns, hand grenades, molotovs, dynamite, etc.), the numerous variations of zombie types, the random inclusion of certain bosses (I've beaten the game several times, and there are still two I have never seen), the use of fleeing rats to indicate I've entered a street with a boss, and so forth.
So yeah, horror fans who like simple run and guns with a bit of a River City Ransom feel? In my opinion, this game is worth the $2.99. You can check it out on Steam, and I believe it appeared on Xbox Live first.

19. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory - Gamecube (August 24)
20. *NEW* Ninja Warriors Again - SFC (August 26)
Almost forgot about this one. I was reading and seeing about Ninja Warriors on the SNES, so I switched it up a bit and played the Japanese version. There were a few minor edits, graphics such as blood and female enemies (never featured in any early SNES beatem ups) and the game is great. I went through it with the big character just known as "Ninja" because he had the awesome moves. A fine title that should not be missed.

Re: Games Beaten 2013
1. Skyward Sword
2. Panzer Dragoon Zwei (Sat)
One of my favorites on the System. Not too hard and definitely a lot of fun. Still Holds up well today.
3. Panzer Dragoon Saga (Sat)
Just finished it. One of my favorite RPGS of all time now. Definitely in my top 10. Great atmosphere, battle system, FANTASTIC soundtrack. The Graphics are dated, but they tend to look rather good in exploring the dungeons and areas with the dragon.
Some say the game is easy, but I certainly died a few times in this one, so I wouldn't say its a total cake walk. You still have to have a strategy, and that is also another thing I love about this game. The boss battles require you to figure out how to affect the enemy almost like a Legend of Zelda game.
4. Albert Odyssey (Sat)
A decent rpg, with some colorful visuals and funny dialogue. I enjoyed it overall. The random battles will probably kill the experience for most although the dungeons are rather short and it's not a huge deal until the final dungeon. Not too difficult of a game.

couldn't tell you. This was my first "real" SMT game. The only other things I've played from the SMT universe would be Revelations The Demon Slayer on GBC, DemiKids on GBA, a bit of Persona 2 (whichever one was not localized, but had a fan translation) on PS1... and Catherine if you want to say that's a spin-off.Violent By Design wrote: How does it compare to Nocturne?

First 99:
100. Top Gun NES
101. Altered Beast SMS
102. Galaxy Force SMS
103. Reggie Jackson Baseball SMS
104. After Burner SMS
105. Space Harrier SMS
106. Rolling Thunder NES
107. Code Name Viper NES
108. Godzilla NES
109. Earthworm Jim Genesis *new*
Yup. Still tough as nails, still hate the booger stage, but still super fun.
I also played, but didn't beat, EWJ2 on the Saturn. It seems too polished, from the graphics to the music for my tastes. I don't know how to put it other than it doesn't feel gritty enough. I do have EWJ2 for the snes too, but it's one of my three sealed snes games and don't know if it's worth opening.

Catherine is related to SMT? You should now go out and buy a Vita and Persona 4 Golden and say goodbye to another 80 hours.noiseredux wrote:couldn't tell you. This was my first "real" SMT game.
