jfe2 wrote:I actually really enjoyed Killzone: Liberation. It's one of my favorite handheld games of all time for sure.

The isometric view made it feel a bit like a dungeon crawler, but the tactical shooting kept it from becoming dull. The various different weapons found in each level were very fun to use. I found myself sticking with the Helghast chain gun near the end though.

It was definitely a challenging game, and I did die a lot. One boss in particular kicked my ass for almost an hour before I finally got him. It was very rewarding to finally beat this game.

In case anyone was wondering, I did find a link to download the fifth chapter of the game. Apparently it was a DLC only chapter, and was eventually taken down after a couple of years. Since the game was part of the Playstation Welcome Back program the DLC was released again, although the methods to getting it are a bit more complicated than they should be. Nothing crazy though. Here's the link for anyone who is interested in completing the game's final chapter.

Nice! Thanks for the link.

TMNT Turtles in Time/Hyperstone Heist (SNES/MD):
Repetitive and somewhat limited. These factors generally eat into a game's funness, but I thoroughly enjoyed these titles inside out. Interesting variety of enemies, it's still beautiful all these years later and can be challenging on occasion.

Mother (GBA):
Typical 8-bit RPG (even if given a slight brush up for its port to the GBA), just enough plot to justify the seemingly endless grinding. It still manages to be a somewhat arresting and affecting title. Curious launch pad for what would go on to be one of the best series of anything, ever.

King of Fighter XI (PS2)
:
I guess it could be considered a redundancy at this stage to complain about an SNK boss, but as I've written elsewhere, the boss, Magaki, takes the piss profoundly. Harkens back to early KOF bosses, while still managing to be more frustrating and less of a game. Par really, great game somewhat sullied by its end. Tag-fighter on crack, deliciously fast.

The First 50 Games of the Year

The Stanley Parable - PC
Age of Zombies - PSMini (PSP)
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice For All - NDS

Games Completed: 53

Thoughts on Games:

Pretty much more of the same in the sequel, which is completely fine by me, if it aint broke don't fix it. I do wish they added a extra case like the first game did, as I loved how they used 3D in the final case of the first game.

Kirby's Adventure for NES
After Burner: Black Falcon for PSP
Yoshi's Story for N64
Metroid Fusion for GBA
Little Big Planet for PSP

Sonic 2 for Genesis
Super Mario Bros 2 for GBA
Killzone: Liberation for PSP
King of Fighters '94 for Neo Geo
Donkey Kong Country II for SNES
Knights of the Round for Arcade
Super Mario Land for Gameboy *new* It took me a few tries to get through the game as I had trouble adjusting to the odd jumping physics but once I did it was a breeze. I really liked the music and shmup levels. While it wasn't nearly as good as SML2 I'll still keep it around to play again in a couple of years.

twas my first GB game. I'm still a huge fan. I actually like it more than SML2, but of course nostalgia plays a key part there. I can beat it pretty damn quickly, and with tons of extra lives. But never stops being charming to me.

i beat it on easy difficulty. i just can't do it on normal settings yet. the first 4 levels are easy, but the last 5 or 6 really ramp it up. thankfully the slow down makes it easy in some spots. actually, slow down makes all shmups easier. i don't think i have ever played a shmup that didn't have slow down. i think i might be leaning towards part III as my favorite out of II, III, and L. force.

are there any other sega shmups in the force series? sega-16 took down/lost their shmup extravaganza so i have no idea what games to look for now. :(
