I could pull some sources, but there's a better than average chance that they were in Japanese. (In fact, it may have been on his podcast that I heard him talk about it.)
alienjesus wrote:I actually love old-school Sonic games. I adore Sonic 1 & 2, I like Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic 1 for Master System was not only my first video games, but also one of my absolute favourites. I also like the GBA games and the DS ones too. It's the 3D ones and most of the Game Gear ones I'm more iffy on (and even then, I still find them enjoyable in their own way. Knuckles Chaotix was more of a sentimental pick - game #1 is a Sonic series game, so #1000 could be too. Also, as a kid Knuckles was my favourite character, and I remember thinking Knuckles Chaotix looked cool when they advertised it in Sonic the Comic

Oh, then by all means, go for it. I'd still recommend trying it out in an emulator first, if you haven't before. If nothing else, the soundtrack is exemplary.
I was always really upset about not being able to play Chaotix and Sonic CD as a kid. For some reason I never even considered owning the 32X or Sega CD as an option, even after they were discontinued.
I always defaulted to Sonic as my favorite, because blue was my favorite color, but I remember thinking Knuckles was a real bad-ass way back when; Then he started rapping, and it wasn't so great--.

I mean, you said you wanted something expensive, right? There's always the JP MD version.
alienjesus wrote:As for Terranigma I have nothing at all against it, I'm just drowning in RPGs as is and haven't ever had any major desire to play it. If I bought Terranigma, it'd be more for it's legacy as a rare/pricy game rather than because it's something I've always wanted to try. That's what I'm hoping to avoid!
A wise man once said, "One who isn't drowning in a sea of RPGs that includes Terranigma, has jumped into the wrong sea," or some such.
