If I was having a hard time deciding, I would probably narrow it down by picking something that I couldn't or isn't easily emulatable. As much as I like having physical copies of games, if I can't get all of the expensive games I want then I mind as well go for the ones that I can't play any other way.

So from your list, Steel Battalion for sure :) Not sure if Xbox is easy to emulate or not, but I would imagine that it would be really tricky playing that without the proper controller.

I'd be split between my mecha fanboyism with Steel Battalion and my Sega Genesis fanboyism with Alien Soldier.

Anyone else have any suggestions?
I'd suggest Alien Soldier. Out of all of your suggestions, that one appeals to me the most. Though, I have heard really good things of Panzer Dragoon Saga. So, either or, would be great.

For me, personally, I'd want something like Little Samson. That is the one REALLY pricey game that I really want. I have other expensive games that I want, but that is the one that is worth the most and the one I want the most.

GameYob and nesDS are both stellar emulators for the DS.

I pretty much hate those grim reapers in Kid Icarus.

I could pull some sources, but there's a better than average chance that they were in Japanese. (In fact, it may have been on his podcast that I heard him talk about it.)
alienjesus wrote:I actually love old-school Sonic games. I adore Sonic 1 & 2, I like Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic 1 for Master System was not only my first video games, but also one of my absolute favourites. I also like the GBA games and the DS ones too. It's the 3D ones and most of the Game Gear ones I'm more iffy on (and even then, I still find them enjoyable in their own way. Knuckles Chaotix was more of a sentimental pick - game #1 is a Sonic series game, so #1000 could be too. Also, as a kid Knuckles was my favourite character, and I remember thinking Knuckles Chaotix looked cool when they advertised it in Sonic the Comic
Oh, then by all means, go for it. I'd still recommend trying it out in an emulator first, if you haven't before. If nothing else, the soundtrack is exemplary.
I was always really upset about not being able to play Chaotix and Sonic CD as a kid. For some reason I never even considered owning the 32X or Sega CD as an option, even after they were discontinued.
I always defaulted to Sonic as my favorite, because blue was my favorite color, but I remember thinking Knuckles was a real bad-ass way back when; Then he started rapping, and it wasn't so great--.
alienjesus wrote:Although I like Contra, I've never been crazy about it. Hard Corps looks a lot of fun, but it's just crappy ol' Probotector over here.
I mean, you said you wanted something expensive, right? There's always the JP MD version.
alienjesus wrote:As for Terranigma I have nothing at all against it, I'm just drowning in RPGs as is and haven't ever had any major desire to play it. If I bought Terranigma, it'd be more for it's legacy as a rare/pricy game rather than because it's something I've always wanted to try. That's what I'm hoping to avoid!
A wise man once said, "One who isn't drowning in a sea of RPGs that includes Terranigma, has jumped into the wrong sea," or some such.

MrPopo wrote:Either that or Steel Battalion. The biggest consideration regarding Steel Battalion is the game requires the controller, making the controller a very finite resource that will get harder and harder to find as time goes on. PDS you would still be able to play through things like emulation or mod chips, though it wouldn't be the original disks.
This is true.

Also, many, many people have been dissapointed with PDS.

Unfortunately I think I'm falling in that camp.

I made it almost to the end of disc 2, and my interest waned. I keep meaning to force myself to go back and complete it. But why do I have to force myself to play a game that I've seen lauded to the stratosphere time and again? I should be forcing myself NOT to play it and do real life chores. PDS has its charms don't get me wrong, but I have not found it to be compelling yet.

PDS is the best RPG on the Saturn. The problem being you can count the number of RPGs (including SRPGs and the like) on the Saturn on your fingers.

The Playstation TV is certainly a maddening piece of kit. Of my physical Vita library, over half don't work. No wonder it was dead on arrival.

I know there's a hack out there to change the whitelist. I'm also likely going to hack this thing, just to play around on something I'm willing to screw up as opposed to my Vita. It is nice seeing Ys on a large screen. At least some of the best games I have work (Ys, P4 Golden, Muramasa, Tales of Hearts R).
