Re: July Jabberwocky Challenge (Revised OP / Register now!)

Well looks like I have one approved with Prince of Persia. Just two more that I need to figure out haha.

I've looked through what I have in my collection, but I don't think I have too many games that are difficult... So I definitely think that I need some help deciding the others.

Could I have some suggestions for challenging but shortish games that I could emulate? Probably around 10ish hours tops, and I think my computer could handle most systems including PS1 and older. I don't have much preference for genre, but I don't want to play sports games or something that's heavy in puzzles. I'm extremely bad with puzzles, so if the game's challenge is from puzzles then I know I can't beat it

Donkey kong country 2 is not too challenging, but I think if you go for 102% then the game can be alot tougher. It's a little more challenging than the first one. Animal antics is a particularly challenging level.

Mega man 1 can be tough for new players. Super Castlevania 4 is not as tough as the nes trilogy but still a respectable challenge.

I'm sure someone else can give you some more personalized suggestions.

Ok so I've got Ninja Gaiden and Super Ghouls N Ghosts by two judges.

I'll add in Desert Strike for Genesis as my third. Judges?

Let me know your preferred platform(s) and I'll give you some suggestions. I'll focus on platformers, shmups, or action adventure.

I say Desert Strike = Yes
Let's see what Sarge and Dsh say for the final verdict.

----------------

So Ack's and Sarge's judging on my games...

Ecco the Dolphin | Ack = yes, Sarge = defer, need Dsh for the verdict
Landstalker | Ack = no, Sarge = yes, need Dsh for the tie-breaker
Super Mario Bros. 2 Japan | Ack = yes, Sarge = yes, this one's vetted
Jewel Master | Ack = yes, Sarge = defer, need Dsh for the verdict
God Hand (Normal Difficulty) | Ack = yes, Sarge = defer, need Dsh for the verdict
ActRaiser 2 | Ack = yes, Sarge = yes, this one's vetted
Rendering Ranger | Ack = yes, Sarge = yes, this one's vetted
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

I thought you were a Mikami nuthugger like myself, you haven't played God Hand? I would say it's about DMC3's difficulty or so. Totally doable. However, that's a bit of a funny and unique one to bring up here, because the game has dynamic difficulty that scales in real time depending on how well you do. It's incredible and you can customize basically every single button input/combo string. Many elements that for whatever reason future devs didn't pick up on.

I downloaded Jewel Master recently myself. Looks cool.

Rendering Ranger seems awesome, kind of the unofficial Turrican. I need to play it more.

I had it as a kid in middle school, never could beat it back then. I wonder if I have the chops now, twenty five years later. Also, FromSoftware totally riffed on Jewel Master's magic ring mixing mechanics when they produced Eternal Ring for PS2.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Hm, I think PS1, SNES, or Turbo Graphix would be my most preferred consoles right now (in that order probably). Genesis would be fine too I think as long as it doesn't require a 6-button controller, as I can only play with a PS3 controller right now.
