I think he was referring less to the game in general, and more the Playstation port, which has been considered subpar since release. If someone wanted to play it today, it's probably not the version they'd opt for.

I don't know why it took this long to hit me, but perhaps Rainbow Six is another odd attempt at riding on the hype of a current popular game, Rainbow Six: Siege, like they included the original Persona to ride on the hype of Persona 5.

Worse yet isn't just the game list, but how little they have the system do for you with the games as it even makes the half baked minimalist Nintendo mini choices seem far more helpful. Also it's a licensed emulator they didn't make PCSX Rearmed which being tested out by solid communities know isn't the best option as it can't seem to hold a steady 60fps in games and has other little hangups too which backs that review up well about stability.
This now looks even more obvious like a cheap cash in they did little work on themselves other than to push it out in a hurry for the shopping season ahead which is a real shame.
This is true but what I read though was that while the PC version is stunningly on the nose with things, the android and derivatives of that kind of are unstable in the way that the gripes in that first review from eurogamer pointed out it has which really is a shame.
it's kind of like ATgames getting crap recently because their latest Atari system that now finally uses the excellent Stella emulator decided to take a page from the toads at hyperkin and used a very out of date branch of it from v3.X and it's on v5 now which has far better compatibility, far less bugs, and other odd kinks worked out plus it's very homebrew and expanded games (within that realm) friendly too.
I watched a couple of hands-on videos on YouTube today. Apparently SONY let some video game journalists play with the PlayStation Classic the other day. The tooling on the case looks beautiful. You know what's behind that mysterious expansion port? Nothing. It doesn't even open. It's just there for appearance. The "Open" button doesn't actually open the lid, but it does allow the player to swap virtual discs. I think that's a neat way to handle multi-disc games. The "reset" button is essentially the home button. Power button does exactly what you expect.
The USB connectors on the controllers have little shrouds that look like miniature PS1 controller jacks. This answers a question I had earlier. Little details like this please me. You know what pleases me even more? Knowing that the USB ports on the front of the unit give hackers an entry vector pleases me more than anything else about this product.
Man.... I was really hoping that expansion port was something interesting. Interesting they did that for aesthetics as it was removed from later models...
I know they said it is not in the plans.... but adding games to these mini systems 6 months down the road would print money.
USB should give folks a bad door in for dubious activities.
More dubious the better. When a good library that really represents the hardware well from the period, and it can be added with dubious intent I'd be very inclined to buy it. I like what I saw, except the game list.
