No emulators allowed.

I did acknowledge that it was probably the emulator, sometimes you don't have a choice though, my Genny is on the fritz.

I understand it's not Mario and I try to see that going into it, but my brain doesn't work that way for some reason. Not for me which is fine, I can see why people would like it though.

So I've been watching the S3&K run from the 2015 Awesome Games Done Quick marathon. This game is incredibly broken if you know what you're doing.

That's kind of how most 2D platformers are once the speed runners tear into them and uncover glitches, though the Sonic games are some of the worst offenders.

Watch a Sonic 2 one. That game is a complete mess.

Yeah, I saw the Sonic 2 one as well (they did both games back to back). I think S3&K seemed more glitchy to me, but they're both hilarious when they pop the big stuff. Compare the Castlevania games where most of it is just good damage boosts and a couple of quick kill glitches.

Hold on...

My skepticism alarm is going off.

A lot of these so-called "uncovered glitches" only apply in emulators. Try replicating these glitches on actual genesis hardware with real cartridges.

While that's true, Awesome Games Done Quick uses original hardware only AFAIK.

Gonna hit up Sonic 3 again today. Get that one out of the way before I replay the better ones...

You're thinking of tool assisted speed-runs which isn't what we're talking about.

I played some more of this today. Going for all 14 emeralds as Tails this weekend.

I have 7 and just got to Mushroom Hill Zone. I'll finish it off tomorrow.

And then next weekend, it's Knuckle's turn.

Sonic 3... yeah, really does quickly turn into a "can't wait until this over" kind of experience. Best I could probably give it is a 6/10. I wonder if my feelings for it would be different if 80% of the music didn't suck. Don't get wrong, Michael Jackson rocks, but the MJ/90's pop-isms here are just awful! I'm shocked the final boss theme between this and S&K originated here. I don't care for the additional music 3 has as well, namely the miniboss theme and Knuckles song here sucks. The credits theme is okay.

Funny that S&K barely has any water, but it's in 4 zones in 3.

It really is a mystery between what happened with these two. S&K's quality is night and day compared to S3's for me.
