But it isn't diversity when you only want yourself represented! That is still the core problem of only thinking about issues that affect you. There are issues bigger then just needing women to be better represented in video games.

That is not what she's saying and you know it.[/quote]
I didn't mean it as just apple. The people that are complaining about these issues don't want to look at a bigger picture and just want themselves represented. They want to complain that they aren't represented not that other groups aren't. Only their issue is important to them and in real life the sex of a video game character is pretty fucking petty when you look at bigger issues these people could be spending their time on.

Who are these people to which you refer?

In my experience, those who want more equitable representation in media want it across the board, not just for a particular marker of identity.

Well as a recent example that was what kicked this whole shit show off, asscreed unity, I haven't read of anyone talking about how there are no black playable characters, have you? What about how there isn't a gay assassin? I know I sound like I'm trolling with this but I'm seriously not. Why is it that when these other things could be brought up, as well as the no female character, they get left behind.

Just because you personally didn't hear about these complaints doesn't mean people weren't making them.

Know what you are talking about.

The criticism was about the co-op character stuff, which was all male. I am pretty sure you can choose skin color on those characters. Sexual Orientation doesn't factor into the game or character creation.

There was no one "talking about" those things because they were a non-issue.

I'm not sure what the bigger picture here could be. More equal and logical representation of gender and race in games should be the big picture. I'm not a woman but there should be more women playable in games. That isn't me wanting myself represented.

In real life the sex of a videogame character is obviously important otherwise we wouldn't even be having this discussion. It's not just games, it's movies, comics, TV, music videos, film everything where it is difficult to find balanced representations of women and LBGT people. It all adds up and sends out a bad message to society on the whole.

If we go back to Assassin's Creed Unity there is no reason for at least one playable female avatar. None. In the games lore we have seen (and played as) female assassins. Ubisoft bothered themselves to animate women on those occasions, why not now? We have all the power of the PS4 to realistically recreate revolution era Paris but programming a slightly different walk cycle is too much? Can you see how that might be taken as a slight to an entire gender?

They are making reasonable claims that more inclusiveness should be had. There's not many people complaining that Duke Nukem should have an option to be black or female, whereas these are blank slate multiplayer chars; the only reason not to give options here is laziness/misguided marketing statistics.

I don't remember where I read it, but there was an article about how many publishers tend to unintentionally sabotage games with female protagonists. Specifically, they think such a game won't do well, and so they either slash the marketing budget (so they won't lose much if it doesn't go well) or toss it on an experimental entry (handheld entry in a console series), which inevitably leads to lower sales and the prophecy is self fulfilled.

Assassin's Creed Liberation is a good example of that. Put the ethnic female charater on the Vita. Why not a multi console release for that?
