I didn't mean it as just apple. The people that are complaining about these issues don't want to look at a bigger picture and just want themselves represented. They want to complain that they aren't represented not that other groups aren't. Only their issue is important to them and in real life the sex of a video game character is pretty fucking petty when you look at bigger issues these people could be spending their time on.
I'm not sure what the bigger picture here could be. More equal and logical representation of gender and race in games should be the big picture. I'm not a woman but there should be more women playable in games. That isn't me wanting myself represented.
In real life the sex of a videogame character is obviously important otherwise we wouldn't even be having this discussion. It's not just games, it's movies, comics, TV, music videos, film everything where it is difficult to find balanced representations of women and LBGT people. It all adds up and sends out a bad message to society on the whole.
If we go back to Assassin's Creed Unity there is no reason for at least one playable female avatar. None. In the games lore we have seen (and played as) female assassins. Ubisoft bothered themselves to animate women on those occasions, why not now? We have all the power of the PS4 to realistically recreate revolution era Paris but programming a slightly different walk cycle is too much? Can you see how that might be taken as a slight to an entire gender?
