Yes, every Fire Emblem is like this. FE:A has the most "exploration" in that there's a world map and you can go back to previous towns to hit up the shops or do the random battles (which you probably haven't unlocked yet), but even that is incredibly light compared to Shining Force II.noiseredux wrote:So far it seems to be EXACTLY what I want in a SRPG - meaning, really good battle system and no exploring towns or anything between. Classic makes for a much better game and prepares you for the rest of the series if you decide to take a look at the previous titles - and you should, they are all excellent. After playing Awakening, I finally took the plunge and got the Gamecube and Wii Fire Emblem games and I have played nothing else for over a month now.noiseredux wrote:I started this up last night. I think I'm on Ch. 3, and so far... it's really excellent. So far it seems to be EXACTLY what I want in a SRPG - meaning, really good battle system and no exploring towns or anything between. (Are all the FE games like this?) Normally, the story wouldn't concern me too much but I must say the anime cut scenes are so nice that it keeps me interested. I also decided to play it on Classic as I figured that losing my characters for good would get me more invested as well (obviously playing Enemy Unknown so much was an influence here).
Fire Emblem is like the RPG made for grown ups who don't have 60 hours to invest in just the main game. Though, having said that, I have to admit that I spent nearly 91 hours on Fire Emblem Awakening.
What'd you choose for your Avatar?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Re: Fire Emblem Awakening: The thread of the game
Awakening is far and away one of the best SRPGs I've ever played.
I've been inspired to play the rest of the series. Problem is that a good chunk of the games are Japan-only and the ones that actually made it to the US are expensive as hell.
I do have Shadow Dragon tho, so that will come next.

I downloaded the JP sequel to shadow dragon.
theres a translation patch for it.
its a bit more simplistic graphicswise (obviously), but it has the same core gameplay
I'm playing it right now.

I may import it if I can find it cheap enough. I'd still like to tackle Ys Strategy first tho.
Re: Fire Emblem Awakening: The thread of the game
The two gameboy advance games can be purchased fairly inexpensively, as can Shadow Dragon.
The problem is the Gamecube and Wii games. The Gamecube game jumped in price from about $25 just three years ago to nearly $80 for a decent copy on eBay. The Wii game had a really small print run and has been sky high for years now.
All in all, I think that the two gameboy advance games and Awakening are the cream of the crop for the American releases. I am loving the storyline of the GCN and Wii titles but they are kind of clunky, restrictive, and slow paced. They're worth getting if you get a deal.

I bought them both last year for somewhat reasonable prices. Are they really close to $80 a piece now? O_oFlake wrote:The two gameboy advance games can be purchased fairly inexpensively, as can Shadow Dragon.

Yep. I don't know if it's a run on the supply, the natural fluctuation for the titles, influence from Fire Emblem Awakening, ore maybe all three. It's nuts, though.CavZee wrote:I bought them both last year for somewhat reasonable prices. Are they really close to $80 a piece now?
