Re: Sonic Generations
The 3DS one isn't a port; it's not even developed by Sega. It's by Dimps, the same idiots who made Sonic 4.
Re: Sonic Generations
I found documentation on it in Steam Forums. There's a workaround using a program that fools the game into thinking my logitech pad is a 360 pad, but when I tried to use it it didn't make a difference. I can't be arsed with it right now.Flake wrote:Are you touching the shoulder buttons at all? Those will cause him to side step to dodge columns and enemies while maintaining forward momentum. I have never heard of a bug that would do that.dsheinem wrote:so in level 2 I am hitting a bug that causes Sonic to continually sidestep while in forward-facing mode. Guess I'm waiting for a patch

Oh, you're using the PC version! My mistake. Yeah, the PC version is the exception to some of the glory this game has earned for itself - it has not been optimized terribly well.dsheinem wrote:I found documentation on it in Steam Forums. Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Re: Sonic Generations
why you keep insisting on playing PC games is beyond me. Hey how did Rage workout for you BTW?dsheinem wrote:so in level 2 I am hitting a bug that causes Sonic to continually sidestep while in forward-facing mode. Guess I'm waiting for a patch
Re: Sonic Generations
SG has been consistently reviewed as having the best port on the PC (especially with regards to graphics). It is my controller that is causing the problem, not the game itself, and I have faith that I will get the work around to function fine when I want to pick it up again. I could also just use another controller if I wanted.noiseredux wrote:why you keep insisting on playing PC games is beyond me. Rage. Ugh. For the past 20 years, iD could be counted on to make amazing PC titles and solid but inferior console ports of those titles. Obviously that has changed, which is very unfortunate. 20 years of a solid track record is a tough thing to ignore, though, so I thought Rage for the PC was the way to go. Lesson learned, iD.
I still don't know why you are AVOIDING the PC, despite the fact that it is the cheapest and most robust platform available for modern mainstream and indie gaming. For every little hiccup I've had, I've had many many more amazing experiences that best much of what exists on consoles. You're missing out, and your excuses are tired.
Re: Sonic Generations
Are there no problems at all on the consoles/portables? Which version is best, and just how different is the 3DS one? If we think of it as a different game, is it still bad?noiseredux wrote:why you keep insisting on playing PC games is beyond me. Re: Sonic Generations
there were a couple slight instances of slowdown I encountered in my I don't know 4-5 hrs of playing so far. Nothing I'd even call annoying.o.pwuaioc wrote: Are there no problems at all on the consoles/portables?
Flake could fill you in on that. He played through the PS3 and 3DS versions.Which version is best, and just how different is the 3DS one? If we think of it as a different game, is it still bad?
Re: Sonic Generations
The problem with the 3DS game is that it shouldn't have been called "Sonic Generations". The play style of classic sonic and modern sonic is virtually identical (homing attack is mandatory for Classic Sonic on 3DS) which makes the two sections of the game feel redundant instead of inspired.
Honestly, I would avoid the 3DS version unless you are the type of person who buys anything with Sonic on the cover. I am usually that guy and I ended up taking it back.
As for the mainline Sonic Generations versions, PS3 and 360 are virtually identical with maybe a slight advantage in load times for the 360. The PC version can be tweaked so that it beats out the other two in terms of graphics but the game was not optimized for PC so you'll either need to have a beefy system to overcome that or you'll need to dig around for corrective patches (assuming they exist yet).
Obviously, the PC version is cheaper so there is that to consider.

Re: Sonic Generations
Just a quick mention about the cutscenes. I can totally understand some people simply skipping them as that's not what many of us play Sonic for, but I give Sega credit. I love that japanese audio with subtitles was an option for this game. Plus, I am digging some of the humor the game milks from the two Sonics thing
Overall, I haven't found the cutscenes too obnoxious so far. Not hearing the english dub probably has a lot to do with that.
Digging the skill system too. Going into the 2D stages with two shields ready to go at any time is pretty sweeet

Doom 4 will hopefully be PC-centric.dsheinem wrote:SG has been consistently reviewed as having the best port on the PC (especially with regards to graphics). I won't buy this game till I can get a PC demo of it.
I could try the PS3 demo (there is one right?) but I'm worried it'll look like ass on an SDTV.
Older. Not wiser.
