Well, I know my fightans, and I know that now - just as it was back then - a fighter fan without a Saturn is an uninformed fighter fan.
Actually, you found replace 'fighter' with 'arcade', and that statement would be just as valid.
What is your least favorite and most favorite console?

I agreed with that sentiment. It's just relatively tame otherwise. One or two genres do not a 'good' machine make.
Re: What is your least favorite and most favorite console?
I am very sorry for what I said about the Sega Saturn, my worst
console is the Wii...I wouldn't buy Wii for Wii games...end of story for me.
I am not a fighting games fan, but I dont mind them if they are good
but say who wins in fighting games: saturn or neo geo?
as for 3DO and cdi, those are failures
and obviously the worst, but when ppl say least favorite
I guess they mean out of the successful ones.
yet, 3do has a special place in my hart. FMV games
was mind blowing back then for me, remember Mad Dog Mcree
still want to play it!
@AznKhmerBoi
Why do you have the xbox?
i understand it was like pc in a box, it was huge and clumsy
but games were fantastic in my opinion
it might not have had the cartoony stuff
but u cant go wrong with:
Shenmue 2, Halo 2, Ninja Gaiden, GTA, Beyond Good and Evil, Panzer Dragoon,Psychonauts,
Fable, KOTR, Jade Empire,
just wondering why the hate

Depends on the time and the genre.
If the Saturn had come out one generation earlier, it would have been the Number One go to system for having tons of great fighters. It just had the rotten luck of coming out after multiple SF2 variations and more than a few disappointing entries in the MK series killed the buzz everyone had for the genre. Meanwhile, PlayStation was lucky enough to get in on the RPG craze and benefited from it's enormous popularity as much as the SNES did from the popularity of fighters.
One genre IS all a machine needs nowadays to be 'good'. What are the games that currently dominate the mindset of gamers these days? Call of Duty. Half-Life. Battlefield. Bioshock. Portal. Dead Space. Crysis. Deus Ex. Killzone. Resistance. Halo. Left4Dead. Team Fortress. And that's just the shit that I know is on the forefront of most people's minds: that's not even including the ones I personally love like MAG and The Darkness.

Re: What is your least favorite and most favorite console?
In fairness, many systems would've had vastly different fortunes had they appeared a few years previous, I still don't think it qualifies it as a 'good' system nor does the fact that mainstream gaming has become a one-note wonder in the past five years.
Re: What is your least favorite and most favorite console?
If you can't see the forest for the trees to notice that there ARE plenty of genres well represented on the Saturn, that's not on me. I only hawk the fighting games because that's predominately what I care about.
There's plenty of great action games, platformers, RPGs, racers, sports games, beat 'em ups, shmups and others on the Saturn. What makes the Saturn relevant is that a good chunk of those games cannot be experienced on other systems, either back then or even now.
If a system would have been a great system in one generation or another, as far as I'm concerned, it's a great system. It's just a matter of allowing time to tell. If you are arguing that the Saturn would only have been great if it released a generation earlier, then you are arguing that the only measure of a system being a 'good' system is if it was a 'good' system in it's time. Basically, it has to have been a commercial success to be considered a 'good' system. I strongly disagree with this sentiment.
It doesn't matter what time the system came out. It doesn't matter what the atmosphere of the industry was when the system came out. Any and all temporal conditions don't account for jack squat. Is it fun now? Will it still be fun later? Is there a reason to boot it up now and in the foreseeable future? THAT is all that matters. That's how I determine whether a system is 'good' or not.
Obviously, it's a matter of taste. Some people take to games like X-Men Vs Street Fighter and Die Hard Arcade like cancer to a prostate. Others don't. Such is life.

I love my saturn collection (about 15 games atm), and I don't own a single shmup, and only one fighting game. It holds it's own for me at least.

Rinse and repeat argument for any console.

Don't be sorry, we are all here to gain new knowledge.

IMO, Saturn. Neo Geo is very good, though. The absence of Capcom fighters makes it impossible for the NG to be the top fighting console for me.

I would not put the 3DO in the same class as the CDi. It was not a total failure, although it was not really a success either. It did find its place, in my opinion.

Might be tough on the CDi. Let's try. Just remember that I have never even touched the thing...
Why do you hate the CDi?
i understand it was like a virtual encyclopedia on CD-ROM
but games were fantastic in my opinion
it might have had lots of edutainment software
but u cant go wrong with:

Yeah... is that really it? Maybe the Mario and Zelda titles were not completely terrible, but they certainly do have that reputation; especially Hotel Mario. Ummm... Mega Race (was that even released for the CDi? Burn: Cycle?
I really don't think you can justify the CDi at all, other than as a novelty for collectors. Of all the home consoles, is there worse? The 5200 does have good games. The Jaguar has good games. The 3DO has good games. The PC-FX has a handful of playable games. The Super Grafx has... 5 games, but all are decent; three are excellent, and it plays PC Engine games. The Marty has a lot of really good arcade conversions. The N64... hmmm... well... that's pretty bad.
