They complain, but they'll keep buying them anyway. When the fanbase put up with the original controls and then begged for more, I doubt there's much they won't suffer through in the sequels.BoringSupreez wrote:Yep. Besides, RE fans are too busy being upset about the crappy new directions the series has been taking since RE 5 to get upset about some Mega Man game.

Actually if folks took the time to learn how to effectively use those controls, they could actually do some pretty incredible stuff. It's not bad for a 3D game that didn't have access to a joystick at the get go.flamepanther wrote:They complain, but they'll keep buying them anyway. Now why they kept going back to it as late as Code Veronica...well, that's a different story.

What amazes me is that anyone was willing to play the original before they added the lock-on targeting. Learning to get head shots (or shoot crows!) in third-person with no lock-on and no targeting reticle is so not worth bothering with--and yet not making those shots can be pretty fatal. If the game hadn't been released when the PS1 library was just really beginning to pick up, I am skeptical as to whether it would have survived.Ack wrote:Actually if folks took the time to learn how to effectively use those controls, they could actually do some pretty incredible stuff. I don't think it would have made it. It would have fell by the wayside and been a sleeper hit, with no sequels, sort of like Freedom Fighters did more recently.flamepanther wrote:What amazes me is that anyone was willing to play the original before they added the lock-on targeting. Not necessarily. I've been off the RE boat for like 6 years now. I've dabbled with some of the games here and there but the franchise has been dead to me for awhile.flamepanther wrote:They complain, but they'll keep buying them anyway. I'm of the strange breed of human that has absolutely no problem with the original RE controls. RE 1-3 are absolute gold in my book (Resident Evil 1 is one of my favorite games of all time). Code Veronica and REmake were good too. Basically, I was only a fan of the original formula, and all of the games released outside of it failed to interest me in the slightest. When I see all of the silly spin-off action games they pump out now a days (I guess there were always spin-offs, like Survivor and Dead Aim, but you know what I mean) all I can do is laugh.

^ I feel the same after playing #5. #4 I shunned at first, but once I got into it I rather enjoyed it. But #4 had a great story, #5 was more about the co-op gameplay.

Yeah, I rented it and beat it when it was first released on GC. I'm not knocking it, but it just really wasn't for me.noiseredux wrote:wait, you played 4 though right bruno? My absolute favorites are 1 and 4.
