I love Larry Legend and all, but I'm more excited about this:

Atlanta Hawks
Players: Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, and Mike Bibby
Legends: Dominique Wilkins and Spud Webb

Can't wait to dunk on people with all 5'7" of my boy, Spud Webb.

Just lost a lot of interest. Apparently you can't completely control both players on your team ?!?!?!? No "TAG mode" option!

Also, waggle seems prominent.

god. dammit.

Dsh, you read that wrong. If you have both humans on a single team each player controls their characters directly. If it's just one human on the team he can tell the CPU to pass or shoot just like in the original; he just doesn't control how the CPU moves around the field, and if he doesn't tell them anything they use their judgement.

There is waggle. To shoot or jump you make a shooting motion with the Wiimote when using Wiimote + Chuck. All other operations are button presses. Classic controller is already confirmed as a control option, so I'd be shocked to see there wasn't also a control option for Wiimote + Chuck with no waggle.

nope.

THIS. The way I read it, you can't pass the ball to the other player and then control that player's movement. You can still control your own movement and tell them when to pass or shoot, but without being able to control them you can't position them. This is called "tag mode" in the original and is the only way to play single player unless you want to deal with the idiot CPU getting locked in shoving matches all the time.

I hope that waggle is optional. My hope was that they wouldn't fuck up this game. Everything I've heard about how it plays, how it is being released, and what features are being excluded/included are fucked up. It looks nice, though.

Ahh, they didn't have that on the SNES version, which is what I'm familiar with. So from my perspective this game was the perfect next evolution of that game. As I've said, when I played it at PAX it has the exact same feel that it did on my SNES (and I'd played it a week prior, so my memory was fresh) and so from my perspective the gameplay was completely solid.

It did have this mode on the SNES version:

Tag Mode was absolutely the best thing about the home ports, and made it playable as a single player game. That's why that Kotaku article mentions it and the comments there are pissy as well. Without it, the new game might retain the feel of the original arcade machine but not the home versions. Unless you are playing with a human teammate, be prepared for the computer teammate to regularly piss you off.

Tag mode is in the SNES original too: http://www.gamefaqs.com/snes/588511-nba-jam/faqs/48639

And yes, TE is inferior.

How am I only being made aware of this now? You mean to tell me I played entire seasons as a kid without this?

Oh well, the point of NBA Jam is to have three buddies over and trash talk.
