Curious if this list would count:

Bionic Commando (NES)
Life Force (NES)
Devil May Cry (PS3)

Of course I didn't mean it as a racial slur. But I'll use JPN going forward.

marurun wrote:I was gonna say, Bonk's Adventure really isn't that hard. It's super easy to get extra lives. Also, Mega Man 2 US isn't easy, but it also isn't as hard as the game was originally in Japan, unless you up the difficulty.

Please folks, let's not make a habit of questioning judges' decisions on games. Of course we won't all agree on the "challenge" aspect of any given game. That's why we have three judges with three different viewpoints to make the call. It's not a community decision if a game is challenging, rather the community can help in other ways. Like suggesting games for people to play, or offering advice to help a participant beat a game if they are having a hard time. Cheering folks on, that sort of thing.

Bionic Commando (NES) - Compared to the average NES platformer, yes.
Life Force (NES) - No.
Devil May Cry (PS3) - Yes.

Ecco the Dolphin (Genesis/3DS)
The Guardian Legend (NES)
Prince of Persia (NES)

Wish me luck!

I think all those count, did Sarge or Dsh weigh in yet on The Guardian Legend and PoP (NES)? I'm trying to keep track, but keeping track is tricky. Definitely need help with that part folks.

Ninja Gaiden (NES)
Super Ghouls N Ghost (SNES)

I'd like some suggestions for a tough Genesis game that isn't a platformer or Ecco the Dolphin.

That could be due people just not adjusting to the controls and giving up. It was my second King's Field game and i only needed to check the guide few times to just figure out where to go. There wasn't any point where i felt i needed a guide to figure out how to kill a boss or anything like that (expect to check out tips for the dragon)

It's really just the controls that can give you hard time on that one. I don't think annoying maze design equals challenge.

I'm still not sure what I want to commit to, but here are a few I'm thinking about:

Contra: Hard Corps (JP or US)
Life Force
Ghouls 'N' Ghosts (Genesis)
Power Blazer (Famicom)
Adventure Island II/III (the first game is just too blah)
Power Blade II (don't think I've beaten it without save states)
Hagane (SNES)
Battletoads in Battlemaniacs
The 7th Saga
Castlevania: The Adventure

I get it. This challenge isn't a democracy. Carry on.

(And feel free to ask me about easy extra lives in Bonk's Adventure.)

Bonk's Adventure on NES is easy-peasy. Did I forget to judge a set?
