Metroid 2 Remake AM2R Released!
Re: Metroid 2 Remake AM2R Released!
Saturn version never looked that good to me. Worse loading times and you have to go to the menu to get to the map so that's not one button and pretty crazy for something like this heh. I've also looked at the extra areas and it doesn't seem like a big deal at all, like a few hallways and a few rooms. Nothing major. I guess it does have Maria though, but I'm fine with Richter.

Yeah, just a little bit leftover from some unfinished areas. I'd argue it was better off without them, and the performance issues are a huge negative.
I might actually give it a go again sometime just to say I've beaten every variant.

I just dropped in to say that SOTN is one of the greatest games of all time......Super Metroid is awesome too.
Sotn will always be my favorite Castlevania and I've only ever played the first three metroid but I like all of them.

Aside from the lack of transparency I didn't seem to think there was really a problem with the Saturn and the loads I really didn't mind one bit. The fact you had 3 characters to use up front and that it came with one good sized full area with a boss and some additional spots tacked onto places the PSX copy had just rounded it out nicely for me. The issue of the map didn't even cross my mind as it didn't bug me.
If I had the two in front of me right now, despite not being able to read it, I'd still play the Saturn version of the PSX copy. I just can't fault it for a lack of transparency and longer load times or being picky over a map button as it seems more like looking for a reason to say it's worse without any solid damning issues, just personal preferences.

It hits you right off the bat. When you kill the Wargs, the explosions cause the game to slow down significantly. I can take the lack of transparency, it's just not the optimal platform to play the game on.

Maria is playable in the PSP version of SotN (Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles).
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Does the Saturn or PSP version do anything different with Richter's path? It's cool that he has abilities letting you go anywhere and do anything from the start, but if it forced you to play through it more normally like Alucard's path that might be kind of cool. Like maybe you don't get his infinite jump until way later, etc.
I like playing as Richter more but the whole castle being open makes it feel a bit aimless and just something to mess with for an hour or so. You don't get the same sense of progression.

I'm fairly sure you can play as Richter and Maria once you beat the game once in the PSP version. Though to even unlock SotN, I think you gotta beat Dracula X first. I could be remembering that incorrectly though.Xeogred wrote:Does the Saturn or PSP version do anything different with Richter's path? Unlocking SoTN is done in the alternate stage 3, which is pretty quick to do.PartridgeSenpai wrote: I'm fairly sure you can play as Richter and Maria once you beat the game once in the PSP version. Running through Zero Mission now.
I got the Super Missiles early with the double shinespark trick. I don't think I ever got that before haha. Is that the trickiest one in this game? I can't remember. I'm going to refrain from using them though and go for an authentic playthrough.
I guess my knock on Zero Mission (and Fusion) is that I'm just not a big fan of the music or most of the remixes. But I don't like the GBA soundfont much in general so that's probably some bias. Also had to adjust a little to a more zoomed in picture after AM2R haha. That's definitely something I love about Super and now A2MR, smaller sprite scale. But Zero Mission being a handheld game makes sense things would be a little bigger.
