Retro Gaming Goals & Resolutions - 2015
Re: Retro Gaming Goals & Resolutions - 2015
3,000 Dave? I'd find that overwhelming. I mean I think I have around 250 physical titles and at times that's smothering. Good on you though for getting a system down and finding a way to clear up your media room.

1. Beat between 10 and 20 games on my "to beat" list.
2. Beat all of the games in at last one modern gaming series.
3. Beat one SRPG.
4. Beat one modern WRPG.
5. Beat all of my 3DS games.
6. Beat Dragon Quest II.
7. Beat all of the games in The Legend of Zelda series.
8. Beat R-Type Delta.
9. Acquire a Retron 5.
10. Collect at least two more sub-sets of 2600 games.
11. Collect all first-party Atari 5200 games.
12. Finish off my Xbox collection.
13. Photograph my collection and post the pictures to the forums.
14. Tie video games into my recreational reading.
I received Tom & Jerry: War of the Whiskers (Xbox) in the mail the other day; so, I have finished my Xbox collection (and all of my collection goals for 2015).
I will probably wrap up Shining Force II pretty soon; so, I will probably be striking off my third goal soon. I also understand that a Reton 5 may be arriving at my house before Father's Day...
The Summer Games Challeng is also helping with my first and eigth goals, but I don't see either my fifth or seventh goals happening this year.
Re: Retro Gaming Goals & Resolutions - 2015
Time for the 6 month update!
I've done pretty good at sticking to this list thus far. The only thing that I can think of that I splurged on was a storage upgrade for my Xbox One which was necessary because it was filling up fast.
bmoc wrote:1. Finish building my new house and get started on my basement gameroom.
We finally began construction last month and the basement has been pored. We should be on track to be completed before the end of the year.
2. Upgrade my soldering equipment so that I can do better/more advanced mods.
Done
3. Make a SNES cable for my multi-console arcade stick which will also allow GameCube/Wii support with my RetroPort adapter.
Done though I think I will eventually make a GameCube cable so that the buttons map better.
4. Buy a PS1 to SMS/Genesis adapter and a USB to original Xbox adapter to round out my arcade stick compatibility.
Done
5. Add a Xbox One padhack to my arcade stick by the time I purchase Mortal Kombat X.
Done though I still have yet to sit down and figure out the issue where all the buttons are triggered when 5 buttons are pressed.
6. Purchase a Wii U before Xenoblade Chronicles X comes out.
Thanks to E3, I now have a release date of Dec 4th. Time to start saving for this!
7. Purchase my remaining highly anticipated games.
I've purchased everything that has been released thus far. The first episode of King's Quest will be next.
8. Get the last few Sega Saturn fighters that I want (Street Fighter Zero 3 not likely to happen though)
No progress.
9. Put a serious dent in my backlog.
Very little progress. What little free time I have had, I have mostly spent with fighting games because they are easy to pick up and put down.
10. Sell the games from my backlog that I finish and aren't worth playing again to help fund the above.
Still doing ok here and I should have some free time while I recover from surgery to get through a few more titles in the backlog.
11. If by some miracle I accomplish all that I and still have time & money - break into the TG16/PC-Engine scene.
Really doubt this will happen this year.

Re: Retro Gaming Goals & Resolutions - 2015
1. Rewire Astro and mount monitor - second light bar obtained, will be soldered in this week
2. Beat Spelunky - Done
3. Beat Lolo 1 - Still not even loaded it up yet
4. Build Pinball Machine or arcade tables - plans drafted, table saw obtained, just waiting on the funds which will come from point five
5. Pair down remaining doubles and triples - pictures taken, list drafted, local collector is getting first dibs, then on to the site. Typically site gets first priority, but he is buying in bulk and slightly under market rate (I think he is trying to stock a second store).

Re: Retro Gaming Goals & Resolutions - 2015
Half way through the year! Progress time! (I'm a bit behind)
alienjesus wrote:1. Beat at least 60 games I've never beaten before.
I'm at about 35 on my games beaten list, but about 5 are ports of things I've beaten before. I'm about on track.
2. Beat at least 2 Final Fantasy, 2 Fire Emblem and 1 Dragon Quest game
I've beaten 1 Fire Emblem, and I'm closing in on 1 Final Fantasy. I'm behind on this one.
3. Start and finish an alphabet marathon - play through an A-Z of unbeaten games
I've started, but I'm far from finished. I'm on game H, so I'm not quite half way yet either...
4. Limit the number of games being bought, if not necessarily the money spent overall. 2-3 games a month is plenty.
Hahahahahahahaha.
New goal from July - December: I can only by a (single) game when I have an On Fire badge on my backloggery (for beating 3 games in a row). Retro Game Box is exempt from this for purchasing purposes, but it DOES stop me getting the On Fire badge.
5. Beat a game I've not beaten before on all major consoles I own (exemptions for more obscure systems like Virtual Boy & Pokémon Mini).
Consoles I've beaten games on: NES (Famicom), SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii U, Mega Drive, Saturn, PS1, Game Boy, GBA, DS, 3DS, PC
Consoles still to go: Wii, Master System, Dreamcast, PS2, XBox, Turbografx, 3DO, Virtual Boy, Game Gear, PSP, Vita, Pokémon Mini

Re: Retro Gaming Goals & Resolutions - 2015
An update on my goals now that we are halfway through the year.
Collecting Goals:
1. Buy the remaining three Everdrive carts for systems I don't have a flash cart for, Turbo Everdrive, Game Gear Everdrive, and Mega Everdrive. If Krikzz releases the GBA Everdrive that shoots to the top of the pile.
Haven't had a chance to pick any of these up yet but still on my radar
2. Find a decently priced good condition GBA SP AGS-101 and a PSP 3000.
Still looking for the AGS-101 but I did acquire a free PSP 1000 so I can play Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep.
3. I'd like to acquire 2+ of the big remaining Gamecube titles I don't have yet - Skies of Arcadia Legends, PSO Episodes 1 & 2 Plus, Cubivore, RE 2, RE Code: Veronica X, Gauntlet: Dark Legacy, Mario Party 4-6, Kirby Air Ride, Metal Gear Solid, Baten Kaitos Origins
This goal is done. I picked up Skies of Arcadia Legends, Gauntet: Dark Legacy, Resident Evil Code: Veronica X, and Baten Kaitos Origins.
4. I recently acquired an Atari Lynx and a PC-Engine. For the Lynx I only have Steel Talons and I don't have anything for the PC-Engine. For the Lynx I'd like to add some more CIB games for this system, thinking 5+. For the PC-Engine I want to find a regular controller, a couple of Hu-Card games, and a turbo composite booster or get it modded.
I haven't touched this and not sure if I will. I'll add the Everdrive for the PC-Engine instead
5. Continue acquiring, have StarFox & SMW2, the full set of US games that don't work on the SD2SNES - SuperFX, SA-1, and S-DD1 plus Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius and Super Bomberman Panic Bomber World.
Haven't found anything here.
6. Work on adding more first party Nintendo games for my various consoles and handhelds. The goal is to ultimately have almost complete first party sets for each system/handheld. I'm not going after competition, World Championship, NFR, or variant carts and I haven't decided on Japanese/Pal exclusives yet.
I've decided to switch my focus to the Gamecube, Wii, Wii U, GBA, NDS, and 3DS systems and I have picked up first party games so I'll consider this accomplished though I'm still working on it.
7. For my NES and SNES I would like to get a 4-player adapter for each along with a NES Blaster and SNES Super Scope
This is 1/4 completed as I picked up the Hudson SNES 4-player adapter, still looking for the other items
8. Decide whether I want to keep the PS2 and if I don't to part with it. If I do to exchange my phat for a slim model.
Completed - I decided to move the PS2 to my ex-wife's house so the kids can use it in their bedroom - sold off everything and found Kingdom Hearts I & II
9. Get my consoles and games more organized then they currently are. Maybe take some pictures to post in the my game room/collection thread.
I had a shelving mishap so I need to get the maintenance guy to come in and fix it before I can store stuff again
Gaming Goals:
10. Basically to play more and beat more games, especially with my kids. More specifically;
a. I would like to participate in the Retro Together forum at least 4 times this year.
b. Replay through Chibi-Robo
c. I would like to beat a Metroid, Zelda, Pikmin, and Kirby game this year. I always get near the end and stall out so I'd like to actually finish one from each series.
No Retro Togethers due to time but we have started a Kirby game and a Pikmin game
Miscellaneous Goals:
11. Finish the project I started this year for next year's Racketboy Charity Auction. I'm having a hard time finding a few things to finish it up.
changed the one I'm going to get done first and got some help for this so the outlook is good that this will be done by December
12. Bind one book of Nintendo Power magazines (6 issues)
Will not get completed this year, too many comics I want to get done first

Re: Retro Gaming Goals & Resolutions - 2015
Halfway update...
1. Beat at least 50 games. (I would like 10 of those to be RPGs but I'm not sure how doable that is)
I've beaten 21 games so far... So I'm a little bit behind, but not my a large amount. Shouldn't be a problem to get to 50 once I move and have access to all my games again.
2. If I beat 2 games, I'm allowed to buy 1 game (so I make sure I'm making my backlog smaller instead of bigger)
Totally buggered this up, and I doubt I'll be able to stick with this once I move since I'll be getting an actual game budget
Instead I think I want to try playing at least an hour of every game I haven't touched yet. That should at least remove a few games from my backlog.
3. Don't buy any bundles if I would be breaking goal #2 (last year I bought quite a few bundles and I didn't like a lot of the games anyway :/)
This goal didn't work out so well either ha...
4. Get my NES fixed already :l
Still haven't had a chance to fix. I'll probably get a chance once I move.

We're at the three-quarter mark! How's it going?
alienjesus wrote:1. Beat at least 60 games I've never beaten before.
I'm past the 50 games beaten mark, with about 5 being ports of games I've played before. Pretty happy with progress here, should be no problem getting 60 by the end of December
2. Beat at least 2 Final Fantasy, 2 Fire Emblem and 1 Dragon Quest game
I've beaten 1 Fire Emblem, and 1 Final Fantasy. At this point, I can't see this happening.
3. Start and finish an alphabet marathon - play through an A-Z of unbeaten games
I was on H at the end of June. I'm on I at the end of September. This won't happen either. I'd like to finish hald though - if I can reach game N by the end of the year I'll be happy.
4. Limit the number of games being bought, if not necessarily the money spent overall. 2-3 games a month is plenty.
Sigh. Nope.

I think I'll try to go for a Spyro game, those are pretty timeless.
Wow, I've so far failed to meet the only goal I set for myself. I suck.
On the upside, my spending has matched my retro gaming: I've only added one retro game to my shelf this year, and I got it for free.
