From Youtube vids it does look like the PS2 game. Oh well, at least I won't have to emulate it anymore

No mention of the Windows version.. I hope it gets released! At least you can tinker with the controls to your liking on the PC.

All Sega's blog had to say about it was "In the coming months".

I also think people need to keep in mind that the game is $10 (!), not $40 or $50. That's par for the course with a HD upgrade. As you noted, it is absolutely the JPN PS2 version in HD. The original is included also and I believe if you ace everything Christmas Nights unlocks.

I don't understand reviews these days... How can anyone review a game as glorious as NiGHTS and only give it 5.5/10?

Now, if they had botched the port and screwed things up, or if it was a full price release, it would be understandable, but that review makes no mention of that. From the sounds of it, it's just like the original, but in HD and with Christmas NiGHTS (and no doubt other extras) bundled in.

I know I'm a retro gamer on a retro gaming site, so maybe I'm "out of touch" and biased, but if you ask me the game has aged brilliantly. The game is still additive and fun as hell and this HD port is very welcome.

Nights didn't even deserve a 5.5 at release.

I respectively disagree. I'd give it a 9 easily.

Yup. :P

I really don't understand the following it has anymore. I went back and played it a few days ago. The game is decent enough no doubt by 32 bit standards, but, it's far from great or from being fairly good. I certainly don't think it's aged that well either. The control is very touchy with the 3D pad, slow with the standard pads. It's lacking on content, and doesn't really look that great either. By far the best part of the game is the music. Tomoko Susaki is a great composer (did Ristar as well).

By modern standards, I can see why it got a 5.5, but, I don't see how it got amazing scores when it was new either. It's certainly unique, but that simply isn't enough for me. I guess it might be for some people though.

For $10, having an upscaled version of the PS2 remake is pretty darn good. And then you throw in Christmas Nights and it's a must buy.

I'm really hoping to see a "Virtua Fighter HD Collection" at some point. Have the first 3 or 4 games upscaled with online play for $15, that would be fucking amazing! Make it happen, Sega

Christmas Nights is in the PS2 version.

I was just checking out the XBLA demo today, and it seems that the only differences between this and the PS2 version are some cleaned up graphical details (which are nice, and the orbs/stars look much more interesting) online ranking, and maybe there are some illustrations and such that aren't in Christmas Nights.
$10 is a great price, and would make this version a great alternative to playing it on the Saturn or the PS2--if it weren't for the controls being so horrendous! I don't know if there's any differences in controls between the demo and full versions, or the PSN and XBLA (etc) versions, but it feels like I'm playing the game with a d-pad, even though I'm using the 'analogue' stick on the 360 controller. It's absolutely horrible. Such a shame, because it looks like they did a bit more to polish Nights graphically than they did with JSR, but those 360 degree controls are really important for this game, and they just aren't there.
Guess I'll be sticking with the PS2 for a version with updated graphics, and smoothing.
