Re: Whats the meaning behind your avatar and or user name?

Somewhere around 97/98 my friends on ICQ had an annoying habit of changing their usernames every day/hour. I gave in to peer pressure and started doing it too. When it got old this is what I ended up with and it stuck. I dunno what it means or how I came up with it. I was probably drunk and/or high and/or sleep deprived. I wish I could say it's based on a Japanese anime character called Anpan Man whose head is a bean-paste filled pastry but I only found out about him later.

The avatar is a Kobun/Servbot from Megaman Legends/Misadventures of Tron Bonne - a PS1 spinoff series I like.

If I were to change it on one thing then I would have to change it on other things. But then again, I suppose I could just change it for here and YouTube.

In high school I had a monkey that hung from my backpack, he was pierced and what not.
Everyone would get me monkeys as gifts and try to steal him. Became sort of my mascot.

I needed a name on IGN boards.
Just went with DaGamingMonkey
DGM for short

My avatar is the icon I use on IGN
It wraps up 2 of my loves, hockey and gaming.

/b/tard is a reference to 4chan.org's board for "random," labeled /b/.

Err, mine is pretty obvious I think, so I'll mention a few I've used in the past as character names.

Conrad (as in Conrad Hart from Flashback)
Hayward (Hayward from Shining Force 3)
Raz (From Psychonauts and also one of my dog's names)

Seven Kingdoms is one of the greatest and most overlooked RTS's I've ever played. Rather than being all about smashing your enemies to tiny bits, it also placed very strong emphasis on espionage, economics and diplomacy.

It was entirely possible to kill you opponents without sending a troop into battle by simply sending in spies, assassinating their king and being lucky enough to have your opponent accidentally name one of your spies the successor. You could also send spies to the villages and start rebellions, or have spies steal research technologies. Another way to kill your enemies indirectly would be to cut off their trade routes, which would either destroy their economy and cause riots, or make them starve to death.

Considering this came out in the same year as the first Age of Empires, it's pretty amazing that such an early RTS was so deep. It's also a shame that all the sequels were garbage and that no other RTS copied it's espionage and reputation system.

Anyway, enough about how great that game was. That's how I got my name, and I guess that's all I really needed to say.

The av is Date Masamune. I saw it in the gift shop the former site of the castle he built in Sendai, JP that I visited had a few years ago. I liked it because it mixed the ultra cute with the old historic.

So what's the deal with your weirdo avatar?

Title's just for fun.

In this topic (just for kicks, and because I'm curious) explain what your avatar is and why you chose to use it/what it means to you.

As for mine, I'm a big comic book dork.

I was seven years old in 1993 when they first introduced the current version of Superboy. I'm nearly 24 now, and he's still one of my favorite characters of any medium. This version of the S symbol is the one Superboy wears on his chest, and the black and red color scheme has become synonymous with the character.

I have a shirt with this symbol on it too. Wottadweeb right?

my avatar is the no-name-bum from Rags to Riches on the Commodore64

I started playing this back in '85-'86 and have been in love with it ever since

add to that, the fact that I've lived on the streets for 2½ years; been poor for 32 years (albeit I had a time when I had *decent* money, due to illegal activities) and the fact that I *am* a bum (as in; I have bought about 7 pieces of clothing in my life from a retail-store, the rest have been from flea-markets/dumpsters/trashrooms); same goes for just about everything I own

add to that; the fact that I prefer walking barefoot, or not pay more than $7 for a pair of shoes, and the better last me for *at least* a year (once again, flea-market)

and I look old and worn out...

suits me fine.
