I dunno, 3D for TVs seems largely to use functionality you'd want anyway. I don't disagree with you entirely - in fact, I bought the slightly cheaper, 3D-less model of my current TV - but a big part of what you need for 3D is higher refresh rate, which also serves to enable 24fps display without 3:2 pulldown and so on.

Having the extra chip(s) in there to let it interleave frames and sync up with glasses may not actually cost much to add. Given the choice, I'd rather they leave out the Smart TV stuff, but that's the new thing to focus I guess.

I don't know about this. The 3D effect on the 3DS is, IMO, pretty solid, and Nintendo still employs it for most of its games.
Yeah they keep puttin it into the games but i remember that early 3DS marketing was "ITS ON 3D!!! IT HAS TO BE GOOD!" And now it just a feature that most people don't even mention anymore.

The main reason actually i hate 3D is for the movies. You know when avatar came out and EVERYTHING has to be on 3D even when it wasn't ment to be on 3D? Or when they make those stupid shots where they zoom in the face or something and on 3D that thing pops out of the screen and tries to look cool for 5 seconds but looks wierd on regular screen.

I always scoffed when people say that the Mega Man X games are some of the hardest platformers of all times. Sure, they're never *easy* but you have infinite continues and with some practice I've always been able to get through them, unlike say, Castlevania 1 or 3.

BUT DAMN, the final stages of Mega Man X6 have some SERIOUSLY INSANE BULLSHIT. I gave up in the second laboratory stage where you need to jump over spikes... timed between a block moving vertically that can crush/kill you AND a block moving horizontally that will spell your doom unless you know EXACTLY what you're doing.
I'm super-thankful this game lets you save after final-boss stages. I don't think I could handle having to fight the boss from the first one again.

Get good, scrub. ;)

Actually, I don't remember a whole lot from MMX6. I just remember enjoying it a bit more than most folks at the time, who ripped it a new one. If they thought that was bad, they clearly weren't ready for MMX7.

I remember watching X6 in one of the Games Done Quick marathons and I just kept saying to myself through the run "fuck that game".

I suck at Mega Man. I can only beat Mega Man 2 and Mega Man II.

My entire life is a failure.

I already ranted about X6 in the MMX Together Retro thread but I can't help myself when the name of this vile demon is invoked.

It's not bad because it's hard, it's bad because it's a legitimately unfair game with bullcrap level design that's sometimes seemingly unfinished (or at least incredibly unpolished). There's also the infamous miss-able items which can literally make the game impossible to beat with X. The randomized level difficulty is also one of the most poorly implemented game mechanics ever. You'd think they would have learned after how poorly the randomized elements of X5 went down.

I could go on and on about the terribly conceived bosses (not just the mavericks which are mostly ugly and lame but the mini-bosses and even the main villains and their long, drawn out, pointlessly boring fights), as well as the awful story and its hack-job translation but I've torn into this game enough over the years. It's one of the few games that I truly and honestly hate. Not just dislike, but actually hate.

I'm pretty forgiving when it comes to this franchise, I even tend to like some of the less appreciated entries like MM5 and X3. With X6 though I just felt like I was being betrayed with this slapped together, unbalanced shell of a product. There are some expectations quality-wise to a Mega Man game, even the "bad" ones generally meet those expectations. Here I felt like I had bought a badly made fan game.

Now I'm not going to defend X7 or anything, because X7 is a really bad game but when that came out I was expecting it to suck since X6 was a broken game that should never have existed in the first place.

Never let it be said I don't did the music though. The music rocks.

I just hope the Zero series doesn't share Mega Man X6's bullshit. Because I have the DS collection of those and WOULD LIKE TO PLAY THEM ALL but I can't handle too much more of this psychopathic design. (I went back and tried again. Gave up again. I sincerely hope the rest of the game is easier than THIS ONE FRIGGIN JUMP. Maybe I should just back off and grind nightmare souls... another annoying element of the game. You know what? I think I'll just re-start the game on Easy and use the Ultimate Armor cheat. I DON'T CARE ANYMORE.)

And those would have to at least have better translations, right?

It's hard but it's not broken. The games are fairly consistent quality-wise. The challenges are sometimes over-the-top (spikes... spikes everywhere) but I never really felt like it was because the design was bad or unpolished. I know I'm in the minority but I honestly didn't find the Zero series to be an unfair challenge. I guess the difference for me is the Zero series is difficult by design as opposed to being difficult because the game was rushed to market by an apathetic staff on a shoestring budget ala X6. It's failing because I'm not good enough versus failing because the game is poopy.

Besides they give you an out if you're not concerned about your mission ranks, the Cyber Elves basically allow you to make the game as easy or as hard as you want (some even neutralize the danger of the dreaded spikes). The series also gets easier as you go along, the first two are a lot more brutal than the last two, at least in my opinion. The only problem is if you want to abuse the Cyber Elves it can be a little grindy (which I don't like), though it becomes less so as the series progresses.

Ultimately I really love the Zero series though I don't revisit it as often as the others, probably due to it being more narrative heavy. It's solid from start to finish and the artwork is really classy. There's a lot of little touches and references in the series that shows they put love into it.

The DS version also has the casual friendly "Easy" mode which runs through all four games as if it's one giant game with all of the Cyber Elves unlocked and probably some other changes I'm not aware of because I never played through it that way. I strongly recommend giving the games a shot on their own first. They're a little jarring coming off of the comparatively easy X games but it's not unmanageable.

If I may ask, where is the jump you're stuck on? Because there is a specific jump where you pretty much cannot beat the game with X if you missed the Jumper part. Which you can miss if the reploid you need to rescue for it dies, and then it's gone forever. Shadow Armor X can make it through that part technically, but good luck beating the boss.
