Gonna have to agree with those that said Shining Force 2, not only is it my favorite SRPG but might be my favorite RPG of all time as well. Just really enjoy the gameplay, battle cutscenes, character design, promotion system, and soundtrack in this game.
Good memories of playing through this game with my neighbor when I was a kid.

I stand by my statement from 2016. But I will amend it to say my most fun 4x is Civ2. The PC version has seen countless battles on my pcs over the decades. I still have not beaten all of the Test of Time and Fantastic Worlds scenarios.
Though I have been in a Red Alert 1 mode recently and OpenRA has fit the bill quite well. I have also played a few matches of ZeroK which is a nice modern TA knockoff free on steam.
