The only tedious thing about Demon's is the world tendency shenanigans, but even then I usually played it offline and didn't mind the world changing thing. Ideally, I think you could be able to go back to the others and appreciate them now though.

Well for me the enemies have 10 lives thing is pretty huge. It means if I'm dying a lot in an area but still managing to kill enemies, eventually those areas are empty. It seems a lot less obtuse in general to me. In Dark Souls 1, I remember there is a boss in the starting area that you can't kill the first time you see him, he's just gonna kill you. That's just super harsh.

Also fast travels between bonfires is huge to accessibility for me too. It just makes the flow of the game better for me.

Actually 9 times out of 10 in this series, you can typically kill any boss, always at any point. It's possible to beat the first boss encounter in DS1. lol

Just like if you saw the white golems at the start of DS2. It's technically possible, just not an easy task at all.

For your second point, this was no issue with Demon's being hub based. Maybe jump over DS1 and try out Demon's next?

Playing it now. I tend to avoid discussion until I beat a game 'cause I hate spoilers but I will say two things:

Who on Earth thought it was a good idea to put the jump button at L3? I changed that in the first five minutes.

Thank goodness for the installation. This game runs really smoothly; unlike the last game. It isn't perfect but, dang, this is a step in the right direction.

Yeah I know you could technically kill the first boss as you encounter him, but as opposed to the golems or ogres you talk about, you're path isn't through them to the rest of the game. You have to go through that boss area in DS1, don't you?

I don't have Demon's, but I do have Dark Souls on PC. I'm already of the mind that now that I'm into the series, going back to Dark Souls will be a lot easier now.

The first encounter you can run right past him and go for the door. Afterwards I do think you have to fight it to get out, but this when you're equipped and such. So yeah maybe you're right and this one isn't totally skippable. The second encounter is definitely doable though.

"a lot easier now" So you think... *evil laughter*

I'm really far into this replay of DS1 myself and yeah, I'm going to say it's definitely harder all around and it's more cryptic, for better or worse. I wouldn't yell at anyone for wanting to look things up here and there for this one. Definitely a lot of "oops screwed this up until NG+" moments too...

It is worth noting you get the ability to warp around later in DS1. It's not for every single bonfire, but good enough. I totally forgot about that myself.

I'd recommend using this and a path guide to help give you ideas of where to go:

All around, DS2 is a lot more straightforward and didn't really have any head scratching moments for me. Demon's can definitely be cryptic but you don't have to worry about getting lost or backtracking much. I can definitely see myself possibly replaying DS2 most though or diving furthest into NG+. I think I'm dead set on getting the platinum, doesn't look too annoying for me to get at this point.

Also I gotta say, DS1 definitely feels like the darkest entry by far to me.

You can kill that first boss in dark souls with the appropriate starting gift. It was helpful pre bottomless box glitch being patched out. That was an awesome fun time for pvp.

Yeah the points stands ... the first boss you fight in DSII is the tree guy. That's like an hour or more for an inexperienced player. The boss in DS1 you get stomped on until you figure out you have to run for the door, pretty brutal introduction.

I think it's pretty obvious, considering the fact he has so much health. I figured out on the first swing that he wasn't meant to be beaten right away.

I'm not sure what my initial reaction was, I recall him killing me at least once both encounters in my first run.

My Demon's build was kind of all over but I think that's doable there and magic can be really useful. As for the Dark games though I'm feeling like DEX builds should be left to the veterans. In both games I've done 10x better with my STR build characters, can't see myself turning back now haha. I'd like to try a magic build someday just for kicks, probably makes the games pretty different. Either way yeah, these games are gonna be so replayable over the years.

I had a ton of fun with the magic build I did in DaS, and the one I did in DeS as well, it just took a bit more planning, mostly just what weapons ti use that will still be viable Sen's funhouse and later. I think I ended up with the moonlight great sword and the tin crystallization catalyst.

I really want to go back to both games after I get finished with DaS2 and try builds that I never used. I really want to PvP with those shotels and try them out on some turtles.
