I have a friend who's a real Resident Evil fanatic. So of course he was super stoked about 5 and pre-ordered some special edition version. The day he got it he waited for his friend to get off work so that they could play it together. Later that night he called me and ranted for a good hour or so about the whole experience. He mentioned everything you brought up, plus that final boss battle, which I guess pissed him off more than anything else. They spent hours on that alone and finally got so mad at the end that they had to look it up to see what they were doing wrong. "I..I can't believe how....scripted the whole thing is! If you don't do everything in a certain sequence you can't win the damned fight! Who the hell came up with that?! *insert your choice string of profanity here*" I felt so sorry for him and his wallet.foxhound1022 wrote:R.E. 5: I wanted to like this game so badly. I've beaten every US released R.E. game, except for this one. Instead of building on all the things that made 4 great; they decided to tweak it so it sucks ass.
Trying to access your inventory in real time? Bullshit.
Having to “cooperate” with a partner? Utter bullshit. I got so tired of so many bullets being wasted as they were shot into me. “I'm out of ammo!” Then go lay in the corner while they rip out your fucking brains.
AARRGGHH!!!
Seriously though, I love everything R.E. and somehow this game totally missed the mark with me.

Re: Games you WANT to like
I've found myself rather let down by some of the DSiWare and Eshop games available for the 3DS. It's amazing how much praise people heap onto mediocre games
Pushmo - This game has been hyped to hell. It's a bland, boring, mediocre puzzle game. Play Crush on the PSP and then wonder why the hell anyone is talking about Pushmo
I wanted to like Starship Defense, which is boring, unimaginative, repetitive and amazingly cheap as well. Why is it cheap? Solar Flares and Asteroids that randomly destroy or make your weapons stop working. The best part? You get a certain percentage chance at the beginning of the stage of you getting hit by a solar flare or asteroid and yet amazingly, even if you start the stage with a 5-10% percent chance you ALWAYS get hit by one. Don't you just love when game designers blatantly lie to you?
Mutant Mudds - Wanted to like this too, I gave it a shot as a platform fan. It's one of the most generic, mediocre platform games I've ever played. There's not ONE unique, original idea in the game and frankly, it lacks any kind of variety. Jump, shoot, that's pretty much all there is. Pretty small set of enemies in the game too. Mega Man and Castlevania on the NES had more variety than this lame ass game does. For all its attempts at mimicking old, 8-bit games, it doesn't have an ounce of their variety or creativity
I'm getting sick of these retro titles that fall so far from mimicking the greatness of old 8-bit and 16-bit classics it's pathetic. If you can't do it, don't waste our time and money

Final Fantasy - All of the ones I tried
I've tried getting into the first one, III, IV, 7, Tactics Advance, and was met with an unsatisfactory experience. There doesn't seem to be enough depth.
This does not mean I hate Square/J RPGs. Chrono Trigger became one of my most favorite games ever.

Try FF6, you will change your mind. Especially if you like Chrono Trigger.

Whilst I have no opinion on Pushmo or Mutant Mudds, I have to say that I personally rather enjoyed Starship Patrol/Defense. I dunno if you like puzzle games, but the Art Style series are easily my favourite downloadable titles on Wii or DS.Gamerforlife wrote:I've found myself rather let down by some of the DSiWare and Eshop games available for the 3DS. Ocarina of Time. Striaght up overhyped to the point of pure dissapointment
Skyrim. I liked Oblivion, but ran into the same problem. Its open to the point I don't want to play it. I used to love these games, now I'm moving to more or less linear or Batman:Arkham City style open games.
Certain turn based games. If there is enough story and not to much grinding, I can get into turn based combat. However, at times I just can't stand it.
