Actually, it doesn't, and zombie movies and games don't either. I just thought I'd point that out. Walker actually seems like the sort of word a person would think of in a world where the word zombie was never invented. I like that they use that. The word zombie sounds kind of silly to me actually, but it's ingrained into our real life culture so we are used to hearing it.[/quote]
the word has been in the english language since 1871 coming from the voo-doo culture. i guess walker isn't to bad. the show's just trying to be different i guess.
The Walking Dead tv series
Re: The Walking Dead tv series
And there could be some Haitian people still alive some where in the comics/shows universe calling them Zombies haha. But seriously if popular culture hadn't made Zombie a hot word not just affiliated with a mystical/paranormal phenomenon of a not widely accepted religious practice; could you see the word being automatically used with such a situation by everyone?
We saw tonight that other people not in this group call them something else as well, so it isn't like Walker is the term used world wide. It adds a bit of realism to me, that this is something no one had ever conceived and is lost with.
I also loved this episode, I can't wait for next Sunday.

Argh. I missed the last 15 minutes, which supposedly made up for the first 45 minutes. Oh well, I'm sure there will be an encore. Still, at this point there seems to be a lot more living people standing than dead people walking.

I figured as much, but still 15 minutes of walking dead, 45 minutes of living standing people.
Team Shane.

LOL. Well, I didn't say who. Not a huge spoiler, probably not what you're expecting. I'm team Rick, but it'll be interesting to see what they do with Shane and his supporters as the story goes onLuke wrote:Well thanks for the spoilers bud!Gamerforlife wrote:That's because you didn't see the last 15 minutesLuke wrote:Argh. In the comic, I'm all team Rick, but Shane seems to be the only person who seems to make any common sense in the series. Rick is always leaving his son, wife, or both on some damned foolish mission.Gamerforlife wrote: LOL. Well, I didn't say who. Not a huge spoiler, probably not what you're expecting. Shane's all, "let's kill these sonovabitches and find some place to sit the hell down for a few days". But the series is evolving, and I'm sure sooner or later new hair cut Shane will do something vile and dumb.
Re: The Walking Dead tv series
He already has done things vile and dumb.
In the "why aren't there more zombies?!" discussion. I for one am glad that there hasn't been one zombie scare after another, the series could only be interesting with that for so long. If in every other episode there was some sort of massive zombie attack/scare/battle the effect would ware off. Focusing on the humans and how dangerous they can be and what is going through their mind is a good thing. If you think about it, that stuff is what we only get exposition about in the beginning and maybe middle of Zombie movies.

Re: The Walking Dead tv series
Yeah the drama and character stuff is what really makes me interested in the show. It'd be boring if it was just shoot some zombies every week. I like drama and the show has given us plenty of that. Besides, there's hardly a single episode that doesn't feature at least one zombie so I don't know what all the complaining is about. We had one last night and it caused some trouble for which we don't even know the repercussions yet
