I'd say yes, depending on what kind of games you like.

I loved Super Mario Galaxy, Fire Emblem, and Super Smash Bros. I have other games, but I haven't had a chance to play them yet. I felt they were worth picking up though: Nights, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Trauma Center: Second Opinion, Zak and Wiki, Metroid Prime 3. Wii Sports is always a good stand by/party game.
Comics, RPG's, miniatures, and now retrogaming? I guess its time to learn to go without eating...

For existing titles, I also say yes.

There are some solid titles on the Wii. Unfortunately the shovelware-to-quality is ratio is higher than most consoles because of the casuals. So, while you'll find that the majority of Wii games tend to be crap, there are many good games on the console that are worth your time and money.

Also, when you consider all the Gamecube games available for bargain bin prices, you've got even more reasons to buy a Wii.

Zack & Wiki
No More Heroes
Trauma Center
Super Smash Bros Brawl
Super Mario Galaxy
Boom Blox
Nights (if you can sit through the awful cutscenes)
Resident Evil 4
Metroid Prime 3
Metal Slug Anthology
Twilight Princess
HOTD2&3
Samba De Amigo (haven't played this yet)

That's all I have in my collection apart from the obligatory Wii Sports/Fit/Play. There's plenty to go at there though.

And two more to add to the list:
Castle of Shikigami 3
Milestone Collection just came out - Karous, Radiligy, and Chaos Field

Both should only be $30.

In my opinion there are enough 1st party titles to alone warrant a purchase. 3rd party is catching on too....

1st party...
Wii Sports
Wii Play (because u need a 2nd controller anyway!)
Wii Fit (balance games are sooo much fun!)
Mario Galaxy (probably the best mario game since mario 64)
Super Smash Bros
Mario Kart Wii
Super Paper Mario
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Warioware Smooth Moves

3rd Party
No More Heros
Resident Evil 4 (the best edition for only $20 new)
Rayman Party games
Boom Blox

Systems: NES, Genesis, SNES, Saturn, Virtual Boy, PS1, N64, Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, Xbox360, Wii, PS3
Portables: Gameboy, Neo Geo Pocket Color, DS, PSP, iPhone

Another nice thing about the Wii are the game prices. Case in point, a lot of the games that earlier posters have listed can be found for under $30 US. Cheap(ish) games are always nice, especially for bargain hunting retro gamers like ourselves and with the current state of the economy. Of course, Nintendo products tend to hold their value for quite a bit longer than the average third party title, but that's OK. They're usually worth the money and you don't seem that interested in them, besides.

So I would have to say yes, the Wii is a worthy system. I got mine at launch and have since amassed a little library of eight games and a few GC titles to fill it out. And I have to say, I've had a lot of fun.
