"The Ocean Hunter" looks like the light gun game ever.

Thank you so much for posting the rom set, Original_Name, but after I downloaded all the files and unzipped them from http://segahub.org/index.php?topic=1505.0 I did not see any files labeled for The Ocean Hunter. Am I missing it somehow, and also, what emulator are you currently using to play this game?

I don't know about this "epic fail" nonsense (I'm not a fan of memes), but you yourself managed to name multiple light gun games for Dreamcast. Mad Catz made the "official" American light gun (it even includes the official Dreamcast branding) and even if they hadn't, it's not as if Japanese developers are known to fear titles without American localizations. Not to mention that the Dreamcast's smaller list of light gun compatible games (there were five in America and a sixth only released in Japan) might also have something to do with the Dreamcast's relatively shorter "official" lifespan than compared to Sega's predecessors. As far as stateside releases are concerned, the Sega Saturn only had eight light gun comptabile games compared to Dreamcast's five. Not a large discrepancy.

Mkay, very valid. I had no idea that the Madcatz gun was considered the official one. I'd just read in a House of the Dead 2 review about how "lame it was that Sega wasn't gonna put out a lightgun in the states because of Columbine". I figured Sega released so few first-party lightgun titles (I believe HotD2 and CM were the only first-party ones in the US) because gamers weren't too keen on playing them with analogue controls. Oh, and as far as the Dreamcast's lifespan aspect of your argument, I figured that given the ease of arcade conversions to the Dreamcast, had Sega had their official lightgun on the market, lightgun shooters would've been a dime-a-dozen on the console. I attributed their absence to Sega's reaction to Columbine rather than there simply just not being that many made for the system.

Sorry, I just jumped to too many conclusions based on the launch-era articles I'd read on the subject. Not really an epic fail, though, I still wouldn't say.

Would this be emulatable? It's a model 3 game I believe, so I can't see it.

Yeah, I wasn't able to get it to work - couldn't find a decent Model 3 emulator. Even the Model 2's aren't perfected yet, are they?

So is it possible to play Ocean Hunter on the PC? It's a shame that this game is only playable in the arcades

I'm sure one day Model 3 emulation will be up to snuff, but for now that doesn't seem to be the case. It's possible to emulate Dreamcast, though, so it shouldn't be too long... there just needs to be interest in the cause. I'd go ahead and keep the files ready, though. I'm sure it won't be too awfully long before someone makes an emulator.

Do you know if the OceanHunter ROM has been dumped? I downloaded the ROM set mentioned above, but I did not see Ocean Hunter in there
